Disaster Windermere via Calgary
What a horrible end to an amazing weekend. My friend has a cabin in Windermere which is about 3hrs out of Calgary, through banff, radium. had a sweet weekend took the girlfriend along. tons on Wakeboarding, sea doin its all good. but on the drive back to calgary july 15, 2002 900pm. Driving down the highway (notspeeding for once) , having the cruise going @90km/h, a head pops up from the side of the road, about 200m give or take alot this thing was close. stands up on the side of the road. i slam on the brakes, and downshift instintivly. suddenly just as it looked like the da%m deer was not going to run it sprints across the road. i swurve into the other lane (knowing ofcourse no cars were approching) trying to avoid this creater who has the suicidal tendency of lemmings. SHAshes into the side of my cars... the side window explodes into peices, my girlfriend ofcourse on the passenger side covers her face as glass crystals pellet her. what seemed like enternaty finally ended, and time unpaused. i turn to Katie (GF) and ask if she is hurt or anything, she turns to me with a white blank look of shock. but still nods and mumbles yes i think so. i get out and run around to her door.. the first thing i see.. is the side mirror is gone along with the deer... and down the road 12 m. next i notice passenger door is majorly F*c*ed up. and the side fender is also dented. i opened the side door which is nolonger functioning as a door. and pull my girlfriend out. pull glass from her hair and her body. still in Auto pilot mode, reality has not set in yet and my thought processes havn't set in. and still seems to be some nightmare. while driving back and meeting up with my parents, i went over the incident agian and agian. its was a horrible experience and im sure it will lume over me when ever i am driving at dusk in the rockies. even though animals are unpredictable, people stilll amaze me.. i was front running a group of about 5 cars.. one of which was close enough behind me to see the accident yet, none of them stopped. i was greatly disapointed because they could of helped for the insurance assessment. Naturally i thought it was not only helpful but as well compassionate to assist someone in need of it. essecially in potencially serious driving incidents.. It is hard not to blame myself but with the love of my girlfriend and my parents i have come to the conclusion that it was amazing that neither my girlfriend nor I was injured in this accident. if i had not acted fast and swurve to aviod the Full grown 600- 700 lbs Deer, which in a head on collision would had been flung on the hood and into the windshield, which has the possibility of being fatal. I finally accepted that how i acted,, or rather REacted was one of the better situations and that my car curtainlt doesn't replace or some significantly close to a life of one of my love ones.

What's that green stuff. Hopefully the Insurance Company doesn't give you a a hard time. They may try and say you ran into something.... It really sucks
Now's the time to realize that swearving to the left is the absolute wrong thing to do when an animal is about to run out infront of your car.. The best thing you can do is swerve to your right no matter what.. Sorry to hear about what happened.
