Wiper Inserts [solved]

I did a search that didn't seem to yield what I was looking for.

2017 Civic needs wiper new blades.

Should I get new inserts from the dealer? Are they easy to install? Any help would be appreciated.

Should I just replace the entire blade and holder with Rain-X or other.

Thanks

re: Wiper Inserts [solved]

Can't give pros & cons.. but I have done both on 2001, 2008 Civics & 2008 Accords. There are better blades available, perhaps marketing, rubber vs silicne vs assorted other materials, tripple blade design.. knida like razor blade wars.

The Honda OEM blade refils are much less expensive, I think less that 10 bucks, and are really easy to replace.

I prefer the stock wiper blade mecahnisim.. most after market are made with as many modle fits per balde as possibel with different attachment gadgets. I just recently went this way with the 2008 Covic, got the RainX highest tect most expensive level blade, and one fits really good the other does not.. the baldes are 2 different lengths so its a different SKU for each one.

The only reason I am considering OEM inserts is the 2017 inserts lasted until now. I have Rain-X on another car and they seem to last one year.

Having said that, I looked at the OEM arm. I have to take it off to see how the old blade can be removed.

Thank you 123Krash for the link! You're the best! You did mention "There are better blades available, perhaps marketing, rubber vs silicone vs assorted other materials, triple blade design.. knida like razor blade wars.”

Do you really feel the work better or longer?

A while ago, I looked up wiper blades on Consumer reports. I thought their conclusion was interesting. Paraphrasing, they concluded all blades ae the same if you replace them at regular intervals.

I have never tried the triple blade design. Superior? I think Michelin sold them.

re: Wiper Inserts [solved]

I remember when many many years ago the "tripple-edge" was the term new and improved, last blade you'll ever buy.. I bought a few and they did work better, but not sure they last longer. So I guess they meant you'll continue buying this type blade over and over again.

But now there is new marketing terms silicone, siliconized, silicon infused....

But I never was one to replace them on regular intervals.. a lot likely depens on your climate, I live in sunny south florida and the sun takes a toll.. not to mention the sand and grit flying around in the air.
I change mine when they stop clearing the rain form the windscreen.. I do like the RainX blades though, they don;t just make refills, I tend to ue the intermittent feature more often but tht RainX coating wears off after a while.. Sowing my age I also remember when RainX was released and all the rage..

The last time I got some was for the Accord, and while at the express service getting oil change I walked over to the parts department, Honda Dealer, and purchased the refills andoook them back to express and asked the service writer if he'd help me put them on, he showed me the method...

OK, blades installed. It was easy. The service manager showed me one and the second was easy.

Good price too. I paid $9 a blade. Actually, not all Honda dealers charge the same price. I called the two nearest dealers, one east of me. The other west of me. The one west of me wanted $12/blade vs the $9.
