Keyfob not working after battery change: red light won't come on
Keyfob not working after battery change: red light won't come on
Hi,
For my 2016 Civic LX I have this key that also has some buttons to unlock / lock, open the trunk etc. My one keyfob works great. The 2nd keyfob works as a physical key only, it is otherwise dead. I changed the battery 2x. In fact I even swapped the "good" battery from my working remote to the bad one (and vice versa) and it is still dead. I tried to program it with the car folllowing the Youtube videos where you turn the car on and off with the keyfob. Then I noticed something. The little red light does not light up! So the keyfob with new battery is somehow not getting electricity out the battery. I opened it up again and played with the metal contacts to the battery - that did not help. Not sure where to go from here? Is there a problem with some contacts, and where to clean them?
BTW I have the exact same problem with our Honda CRV keyless remote, go figure!

Re: Keyfob not working after battery change: red light won't come on
It may be the way you're handling the battery itself. I realize this sounds stupid but make sure you have the battery in the right way and make sure the battery itself is clean. The smallest things make the biggest differences sometimes.
I know with some cars the fob has to be reprogrammed to the car or it won't work, but I'm not sure about Honda's. I hope this helps
