No throttle response after hard braking
No throttle response after hard braking
So if I hit my brakes hard but don't come to a complete stop, then press the accelerator, the car doesn't respond for about 2 seconds (while rolling from whatever speed you were still going), then responds like normal. This is annoying when coming to a yield, seeing that there's another car coming but you have enough time pull out, only to have your car wait a couple of seconds before responding. Is this normal behavior of the CVT? This only happens when slowing down quickly but not coming to a complete stop, then pressing on the gas.
Re: No throttle response after hard braking
...sounds like you need a manual transmission and cable throttle body. ...and a race car. 😁😋
Unfortunately, I haven't driven one.
If no one replies, try to find another cvt of the same year and test drive it to see if the issue is normal. You could always go to a used car dealorship 😊.
If it's not the same then we can point you in the direction of what to look for.

Re: No throttle response after hard braking
I just tested this last night. 2018 Sport Hatch CVT. Braked hard from 45 down to about 10, then stepped on the gas. Had no issues with throttle response. Then again, I'm KTuned, so there's that.

Re: No throttle response after hard braking
That makes more sense. I've had to adjust my driving habits to accommodate that and the slight CVT lag, like accelerating before the midpoint of a turn instead of at the midpoint
Re: No throttle response after hard braking
Nope, my model doesn't have the turbo. Also, I've never driven the turbo, but I assume that in this situation there would still be some engine response, just not full power, before the turbo kicks in. In my case, the car just continues rolling as if I'm not pressing on the gas, but have let off the brake, during the time of the delay.
So more specifically, it's only a one intersection that I've noticed this behavior. It's technically at a stop sign, but I often treat it as a yield. After stopping (or almost stopping) I make a left turn. Because of the angle the roads meet, it not quite a 90 degree turn, probably more like 60-70 degree. Also, I've had econ mode on every time I've noticed this issue. I don't know if these things contribute to the cause, but I figured it's worth mentioning. When I press the gas and nothing happens, after about a second (I give a slight delay since it's a CVT), I press harder. Then, when the engine finally responds, it responds as if I'm almost flooring the pedal (which technically I am, since it was previously unresponsive), which is annoying since all I wanted the car to do accelerate like normal.
I also feel it's worth mentioning that this doesn't happen all that often, not even every time I'm at this intersection. It almost seems like it's the combination of a specific level of braking and a specific limited speed range that triggers the issue. I'm not sure exactly, but it's the lack of consistency that makes it difficult for me to adapt to this quirk. Either way, seems potentially unsafe to me.

Hey, were you able to fix the issue? I’m having the same thing happen to me but it happens often. It started with a small lag before the car would move and now it can take 5-6 seconds. I’m able to press the pedal all the way to the floor with no response from the engine.
