It's easy to recommand Golf/Jetta 1.8T, but as you all know, they are plauged with minor repair problems. I don't know about you, but I personally have no intension of plunking down $27,000 on a car that is less reliable than a Hyundai.
As for the RSX-S, it's $32,000 but it's not a bad buy. It will hold resale value and is definitely more reliable than a Golf, albeit less "practical."
If you are open to used cars, I would have to recommand 2001 Acura 3.2CL Type-S.
260HP with torque of a 3.2L V6
5-Speed Automatic with "manual mode"
Handsome 17" Wheels
HIDs, Foglamps
Full Leather Interior
Power EVERYTHING
Along w/other goodies, like *** warmer, dual climate control, auto dimming mirrors, digital compass, etc etc.. all the other **** you just can't get in an entry level car.
You can easily find one with 40,000-60,000km for $25,000. Still got lots of warrenty left. Brand new was over $40,000. I would go with this deal!!!

James: the CL 3.2 S is a nice car but as u said the car was well over $40,000 brand new (i think the actual cost with taxes and freight and PDI is around $45,000 cuz 41,000 was the MSRP)
and in 2001 if i buy one at $45,000 and this year (2003) i want to sell it and the car is worth $25,000 (According to u from auto trader)
doesnt mean the car lose $10,000 a year in depreciation?
my civic depreciate also since it is a 2001 model but i dont think i lose $10,000 a year.
not to flame but just want to point out my insight. i dont mind driving that car but it would sucks if i have to pay for gas on big car like that.

i will not buy a 4 door unless im planning on getting married or something.. lolz.. plz.. 4 door make me look so old!

He pointed to a silver SiR on the lot... 2002, 'DEMO' model, which I wouldnt touch [manual demo car? omg there goes the transmission as soon as you leave the lot]... but fooling around with numbers, I can't see why it can't be had for LX coupe money... 3500 off from the rebate, and being DEMO model, fwe more grand easily knocked off, if it was in good condition and low on mileage.
naw man....next ride for me is either Subaru or VW or Audi
nothing against honda but they are not making cars that attract to my eye
WRX or WRX STi
Jetta 1.8T or 4 doors Gold 1.8T
A4 1.8T wagon (newest style of course)
RS4 (if i have the money to bring one over)
RSX is alright but lack of torque driven me away from it.

i want a car with high resale value main reason i bought a civic in the first place..
as for the base rsx, i would consider it.. but i really like how the SiR looks like.... u can call it what ever u want mini me oddessey or egg shaped car.. it looks alright. and like i said i will only trade my car if its a 2 door and stick. if i get thrown into another car like this one. i rather keep this one cuz its pretty nice and i only need a couple of G's to drop a new engine.. (really close!!!)
im not looking to drill a hole in my bank account either but .. like i said most of the guys i talked about it were like 1110000% against the SiR.. but for the price its unbeatable... cuz no one wants a ugly car.. HEHE!! im really wanting a blue one.. but i wouldnt mind a white one.. plus i really dont think i would go out like i did with the Si.. u know just leave it stock for a while...
ur looking for a SiR too? sweet... hopefully it will work out for u too..
im kinda scared to go to VW to look at the GTI.. last time i had a eye full for the price that they were asking but back then, i wanted a fully packaged one that went for like 37K out the door with no discount.... that hurt alot...
and as for acura.. when i went to acura with my parents i got ignored that whole time that i was there.. so me and my dad got mad and we left and i didnt even get to look at a GSR or the type R properly... only got a price quote on a EL.. <--- not that i would have bought one but... hehe... =(
i dont think im about half excited as i was 2 years ago when i bought my car... right now im kinda depressed and tired and pissed at everything... but most importantly im really tired cuz of finals and i cant do **** about anything till im done..
but thanks for helping me out with all the info i need.. but i guess im pretty sure i can afford right now is a base rsx or SiR.. if i get help from dad i can prolly afford a car in the range of rsxS or GTI 1.8T but i doubt.. i really hate asking for help in the form of $$$$ anyway..

Well each car varies how much it depriciates. For example, domestic cars tend to drop a LOT, since they have bad reputation for reliability. Also supply vs demand will affect the level of depriciation.
For some reason, 3.2CL depriciates like CRAZY! Compariablely, a 3.2TL (roughly same price) commands a much higher price, due to the fact that people are more actively seeking for it. It seems that old people don't want the hassle of a 2-door, and youngers guys like us automatically think 3.2CL is out of our reach, hence the low demand.
But look at it this way. If you buy a 3.2CL for $25,000 now... in 3 years, it won't depriciate much more because it's already been hit hard. It certainly won't be less than what 3.0CL is calling, which is around $19,000 now.
Alternatively, if you buy an Civic SiR, or Golf 1.8T, after 3 years from this day on, you won't get $19,000 for it. And to top it all off, you just drop around in an inferior car for 3-years. And they both have full factory warrenty for the 3 years of ownership.
But you are correct about the gas mileage... but then again, I doubt most people on this fourm care. They keep adding heavy 17in wheels, intakes, exhausts, etc etc, which all worsen their gas mileage. People don't mind paying accessories and more gas to look cool and go faster.
I say: why not get a better car in the first place, cause it'll cost you less. Factor in gas mileage, and in the end, you'll break even. But at least you have been drive a kick *** luxery sports coupe.

There's nothing quite like being able to BULLY and OUTMUSCLE a 6-speed 3.5L 255HP Nissan Maxima... and showing taillights to a Supercharged Pontiac Grand Prix GTP... and a 4th Gen Civic with B18C stuffed into it...
But I have to say, the best one is when some redneck guy in a Caddy wants to race.. and you light up the rear tires to INTIMEDATE him.. hahahaha...
**** this, I'm trading my car in for a Camaro.
