Honda Civics are CRAP. (long)

Sorry, but i gotta say "2k1 Civics are Crap". At least mine is.

Here are a list of my damages/problems to the car.

1. 6 dents in total.

2. The clutch is so much deeper than most cars. Very difficult to drive.

3. The car does not let you shift into first gear when it is going at 15km and below. The car has to come to a complete stop or start with 2nd gear.

4. The power windows are not smooth during winter. Sounds like the motor is about to die.

5. The front bumper cracks very easily. Cracked mine hitting packed snow ( not even ice)

6. Suspension of the car sucks, hitting a pothole makes a really loud noise and feels like the car is about to break.

Here are a list of my damages/problems to my old 92 corolla.

1. Rammed into a concrete pole and knocked it down, absolutely no damage to the front bumper.

2. Dad rammed into a stop sign, absolutely no damage to the front bumper

3. Suspension is great. I can't feel a thing hitting potholes.

In general, ZERO major problems.

Anyone else with the same experience? their old / other car is better than their Civics?

BTW: Seems like I'm not the only one having some of these problems.

my old honda prelude was alot stronger, less breakable feeling than the civic, of corse, the prelude is much more a sport car than a civic. if you dont like the civic, then dont drive it.

6 dents=be more careful

clutch/harder to drive=you are pathetic, it is one of the softest clutches ever, dont lay back in your seat and it is very easy to push in.

shifting into first=leave it in second until you are almost stopped, then go into first, i have never had a problem with 1st gear like everyone is always bitching about.

power windows=mine are so strong they move my whole door when they get all the way up, have no clue what you are talking about.

suspension=avoid potholes. they are not easily avoided but swerve when you are able to. all cars sound like junk when they hit large potholes.

cracked bumper=how fast were u going when u hit this "packed snow"?

maybe you should just stick with your 92 corolla then.

I personally think that paying for a so-called top of the line Civic, it really should be able to withstand light hits and not be dented so easily.

The CLUTCH is definitely deeper than most cars. I'm not talking about how soft it is. I learned how to drive a manual on a celica and another nobrand car. It was simply. Clutch, shift, gas and go. With a Civic. it's Clutch, shift, release clutch, release clutch, gas and go. This makes it a bit harder to drive.

Shifting into first is definitely another problem. Going around 5-15 Km. It simply doesn't let you shift into first gear. You're actualyl starting in 2nd gear if u 're not doing a complete stop and that's horrible for the car.

Power window, its' onyl with my car. Not yours.

The suspension for a CIVIC SI seems to be weaker than the Civic Sedan. I drive my gf's Sedan and when the car hits a pothole, there's a slight bump.

When I hit a pothole, it feels EXACTLY like i've just rammed up a curb.
( this is the same pothole near my place)

It seems like you really like your civic so your opinion is kinda biased. I"m sure alot of people can live with these problems. I'm just trying to provide an unbiased look at CIVICS by listing some of the problems I've had so far and placing an opinion on it.

What colour is your car? if it's black, it might be all cracked but you just can't see it =)

ummm starting in second is not horrible for your car there buddy. it is actually recomended in winter weather, less torque=less wheel spin. you can start your car in second all you want, it may wear out the clutch faster because you must "ride" the clutch a little longer until the gear engages, but thats about it.

and no my opinion is not biased. i dont even care for civics all that much. if it was my choice, i would have got a rsx or new tiburon, but i had just flipped my prelude and my parents werent to found on my getting another "fast" car. so i stuck with this car because it was new and i knew i could mod it somewhat. i just dont see the reason for bitching bout some of the things people bitch about on this site pertaining to the civic.

Complain, complian, complain.......

Cry me a river........ drive the car no matter how deep the clutch goes... adapt to your car.
If you want suspension where you don't feel anything, buy a SUV or a luxury car.

I agree the powerwindows are bad..
Oh if you don't want a cracked bumber, steer clear of any snow banks or anything for that matter....

Not shifting into 1st is a safety feature so you don't mess up you engine. 1st only for getting your car moving from a dead stop, by the way....

I think you should trade in you civic for a corolla man...

Sorry for bashin....

I agree with ya, you buy a 2001 civic you should expect problems (never buy the first year of a new generation of a car). I learned the hard way buying a 2000 Focus.

But I've driving my buddies 2k2 Si Coupe, and the car's really smooth, and he beats the crap out of it, and it's still running strong. I have to give the new civics credit, you can beat the crap out of them, and they are almost as strong as the day you first got it.

i get that window thing too. it has to do with how cold it is outside. on warm days it'll go up and down fine. but will stop on ya on cold days.

i've got 2 door dings... its not how u drive, its where u park.

overall can't complain. i've treated it like ****, driven it hard every day and it's still alright since i received one off the first shipment back in 2000.

I agree with the strong PW regardless of weather, you can feel a big "thump" when it reaches the top.

Yeah. 1st is to get you moving but what gear do i use when it's going 10 KM? I do it in 2nd and the car starts vibrating and starts makig this crackling noise....
Pls don't tell me that's normal.

Hitting a pothole with a big thump is definitely not normal either. lol

If you are goin 10 km/h and if won't let you shift into 1st then...

Option 1
push in your clutch then,
put it into 2nd gear then,
give it a little bit of gas then,
let the clutch out until the contact point then,
when you feel the contact point don't let the clutch all the way out or you will get vibrations cause the car is in in 2nd.... just ride the clutch a little to get the car moving faster.....

Option 2
you can let the clutch out all the way going 10 km/h and you should not have a problem..... I use 2nd in stop and go track all the time when we are going 10km/h. Also my friend just started driving stick and he hates stopping at stop signs and downshifting into 1st so, at a stop sign he nearly come to a complete stop leaving it in 2nd and then slowly and lightly feathers the throttle to get the car moving again.. And this guy is a rookie and he isn't complaining like you scsGrumPyDriveR!!!
Your problem is that you are probably way to hard on the gas and thats why you get vibrations.....Duh..
If you car is in 2nd and you are going at 10km/h you just need to feather the throttle and it will pick up slowly but it will be smooth.
I can even start from a dead stop without making the car vibrate....

Your biggest problem is that you don;t know how to drive stick or take care of your car

sorry, I just hate people bashin my car

Yup It helps protect the synchros that way. Although when you're on a rolling start say 20km/h and you wanna punch it to race, going into first does help.

Tried it long ago and it vibrates.

3 mechanics (cousin, family friend and the honda guy) told me not to do that cuz it'll F up my car in the long run.

if there was a proper way of getitng it moving at 10km witout breaking my car. i'll try it and wouldn't complaint.

man ..ur really keep an eye out for the little things?
i never noticed stuff like that..
a 92 corolla was made of some hard material my buddy has one and boy is it SHIET!!... if ur comparing the civic specially a new one. u got a whole of comparing.. considering the cost cutting they do with newer model's of cars to keep it at a competitive level..
i have so many dents that 6 wouldnt mean anything
i have a flexed 4 cup holders on top of my sunroof and 3 dings on the side of the passenger and 2 deep paint chips on my rear bumper. its nothing... u cant treat a car like a princess.. its bound to get those things..

as for suspension.. i have tein SS and i can tell u right now.. even with them when u hit a pot hole u still hear the CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK. just gotta avoid it when ever possible.

haha.. i think u should have gotten RSX man... it would have been better
