1.7L 127HP VTEC = Broad/Flat torque range... then...

As for the VTEC thing.. well, sure you have to push it harder to gain performance out of it. But trust me, that's NOT good for your car, no matter how durable Honda engines are. Over the long run, the engine becomes noisier, and will produce more emissions.
Besides, B-series engine is the one you REALLY have to drive hard.. you can drive your D17 VTEC as hard as you want, but it's still *** slow and you will get your *** handed to you by a grandmother in a Buick Regal.

. Any type of after-market forced induction system would cause a normal engine to wear out faster than normal too. If I was worried about emissions I would hauling my *** around town on a bus instead of driving a car. As for racing grandmothers in Buick Regals, I wouldn't be doing that since I really don't care for street racing. It all depends on what you're looking to do with a car. Joined: Feb 2002

k, i'm not sure about your situation or how long your planning on keeping the car, but figure you gotta save up for the turbo, so alot of research, plan out the parts, buy the parts, install the parts, tune it properly...so within that time, you may actually be thinking hmmm, the "8th gen civic is coming out, hmmm, and its got the k20 in it...hmmm, should i trade up" or "the Type-r just came out (i think it will, IMHO), maybe i'll just trade in for that"
or get a used 00 SIR...
or get a used 00 SIR...
Exactly, the next thing you don't want is your front wheels locking up thus the rear end loses control and smashes it to another car. If I had the $, I would definately go for the Si, because its a coupe
VTEC works by using two different cam profiles, read it up on edmunds or something.

hahaha
ive wait for the CTR or just swap it.
considering that turbo does produce power but it causes alot of stress on the engine..
thats why N/A is the way to go now....

Hmmm well you know, not to knock on Redcivc or anybody else with turbo, but I just don't see the value in it.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome that he did it and I bet his car is fast as hell..... BUT... I think if you are going to do that big of a project and throw away your warrenty, you are better off going with a used Civic.
You can go out and buy a turbo kit for a B16 or even a D16, that has been fully tested and warrentied. And it's straight bolt-on. Buying a brand new car, and using it as a test mule is very risky. Of course, it depends on how deep your pocket is, but what Redcivic spent on the turbo is crazy!
Of course, me not being a risk taker, if I had that kind of budget I would have bought a better vehicle instead. 2001 Acura 3.2CL Type-S could be had for $26,000 with only 40,000km... and that comes with factory 260HP, torque of V6, roomier and more luxerious interior, HIDs, 17in wheels, etc etc etc!
And it costs probably less than a custom turbo 7th gen civic. Don't forget, add in your own cost for 17in rims ($2000), HID kit ($700), leather interior ($1500), dual exhaust ($1500), heated mirrors, etc etc etc and you can see where this is going.
Too much value difference for me.
My philosphy (and not for everyone) is that when you get a new car, you should ONLY do mods that do not void warrenty (especially the engine & tranny) and only put on mods that are bolt-on and transferable (ie - rims), since you can sell them when you are getting rid of the car.
Heavy mods, like turbo, engine swaps, should be done to an older car. Things have properly been tested by others and there are many manufacters to choose from, hence better price. Engines are more readily available too (how many K20 engines are out there, vs B16 or B18?).

If you're someone that drives rather conservatively and shift at 3000 rpm or so then go with the lx since you wouldn't be using v-tec that at all. Cars with v-tec are meant to be driven, and pushed to the limit, that's the way they were meant to be driven.

i shift right at 3000 all the time... so i don't need the vtec, cause it'll never engage... LOL
hmm.. 01 coupe u bring up a very good point but considering that 5-6 years from now most of us will still have the same car .. and by then everyone is gonna start slapping some K engines in their car cuz thats what im doing for more power .. im only waiting for the warranty to run out on my engine before i do anything.
its kinda funny cuz i ask myself that same question every now and then....

True, K20 will be plentiful in later time.. but then again, it also brings up the old point again--why wait? B16, B18 and H22 are available NOW! Had you bought a 6th Gen Civic, you could go buck wild with mods.
I doubt most of people on this fourm will have the same car in 5-6 years at all... most new car owners swap cars every 2-3 years. Since most of you guys are still relatively young, and do not have serious expenses (ie - marriage, morgage, babies, retirement savings, etc), I think the money will go towards a new car.
After all, that is why we bought a brand new spanking Civic, isn't it?
That new car smell... full manufacter's warrenty...
I hope none of you think 7th Gen Civic is the one you will take to the grave with you. It certaintly will go up in value, let alone ever be a collector's item. Hey, if 7th Gen Civics were cars that had a world-class platform like a Porsche, I can see us keeping it longer, and keep doing mods to it.
But most of us will move on, and just think back the "fun times" we had with our Civics. We should appriciate it for what it is--a fun, economical car, that turns a few heads when we go cruisin'!

Hmmm quite the huge difference this time.. I saw one from General Discussions fourm few months ago, and the difference was only 2-3HP.. this one shows way more!
