Fuel Injection Cleaning

Okay, what is invovled in a fuel injection cleaning? A friend of mine with a Corolla, with the same mileage as my car (a little over 90,000km) recently had a shop perform this task on his car for about $80. Whatever they did, they changed some fluids or something.........

Anyway, he said it resulted in a much better engine performance! He said the engine was smoother and was much more eager. He highly recommanded it.

Only down side? "Check Engine" light came on, but disappeared after he reset the battery.

Anybody done fuel injection cleaning before, or know exactly what it does for your car?

hey 01coupe the fuel cleaning you are talking about is done to clean the deposits from the injectors and fuel system that can build up over time. They wont give you any more performance than what came from the factory but they can spruce up a car with fuel injection problems.

Oyd is partially correct about buying the stuff at your local automotive store....you can buy some stuff that you pour in your gas tank that is designed to clean it as you drive but to be honest its a last ditch effort. Using the stuff wont hurt and it helps prevent future problems. If you really want to clean it up and get it back to new condition you have to visit a real garage. They end up hooking up the car to a special bottle of cleaner/fuel by disconnecting your fuel system and run it a compressed bottle of this cleaner. It runs for like 10 mintues and it smokes like a banshee but all the smoke is the impuritied burning out. It will clean the injectors, intakes (if you have TBI) and combustion chamber in the process. If you car has problems related to fuel delivery (sliggish performance, bad idling, hesitation) and you know everything else is running well this may be an option you want to go with

I didnt work in a "shop" as a mechanic but there is pretty much nothing I havnt repaired or fixed on a car, plus I've worked in parts deptartments for auto shops so I've had experience with most things. Im new to the import circut and all the things we have available for the civics but I'm learning fast! hehe Now if only my car would do the same
