civic vs celica?
I've heard that some of you members believe that a 7th gen civic can either keep up / beat a 7th gen celica gt because there is only 13 horses difference. So it'll be a drivers race..
what do you guys think....given that they're both stick shifts and both excellent drivers.
Maybe we can take it to Cayuga before the winter comes for fun and for bragging rights.

I doubt the civic can win. Any other car will respond much better to bolt-on mods, so if the Celica has even just a sticker (sorry, couldn't help myself) it'll leave the civic in the dust.

Really? I thought civics were great for mods....at least with intake and exhaust....
Apparently,,,some people on the celica borads claim that the celica gt are the worst car to mod.....someone dynoed their celica with CAI and only gained like 1 or 2 horses or something like that. I dont' really believe it but he ownes one so....could be true.

Sign me up!! I've raced alot of cars with my 2001 LX, and beat them. It can be street or strip your choice just give me the day and time and i'll be there! I've always wanted to race a celica, next on my wish list is an 7th gen Si. I wish to race both of these cars before season is over! Let's go to Cayuga on Friday night. I find this odd because when I usually drive on HWY 7, every traffic light I just speed off and then the other car beside me does so too. after i reach 70. i stop and the other guy just keeps going...
I wasn't even racing him so did he beat me?
My gf thought I was racing him too and I said no, I was just trying to cut into a lane.

I find that to happen too! I assume because my car is lowered they'd assume I wanna race everyone. But what I don't get is why are these ppl always trying to stay in line with me? Are they entertaining themselves on the fact (false) that they're staying even on purpose while (they think) I'm actually racing at my car's peak level?
I hate morons like that, I usually leave them unless I'm in a bad mood that day.

If your lookin for a stock 7th gen, I am not the one your looking for. I have an 01 Lx (115hp stock) but I have simple mods like intake, exhaust, pulleys... If you still want to race (Which I hope you do) PM me time and location. I tell you what boys, it's gonna be close! The celica weighs 2425lbs, 140hp, 125 torque. The 7th gen Lx weighs 2465lbs, 115hp, 111 Torque. With my mods I should be pretty well be near the celica's stats. It all comes down to gearing I'd say... and driver ability. I want to meet up with an SI also maybe we can do it on the same day??? Kill two birds, with uno stono!

Hey, I thought our cars weighed 2600+lb..... not 2400ish.. but before you do math calculations, take these factors into consideration:
1) You have to look at the entire dyno powerband, not the peak. Our cars have nothing below 4,500RPM. Celica makes more power at 5,000RPM then we do with our cars at the absolute peak.
2) Gearing ratio on the Celica is much more aggressive. By the time you are at the top of your 2nd, Celica will be at the top of 3rd. It revs and access the power a lot more quicker.
3) Then there is the driver........ a HUGE factor. 1/4mile times on this site alone varies from low 16's to high 17's. With the same cars. That translate to multiple car lengths in a race.
But hey, your car is modded.... so it's hard to say. Why don't you race him and see what happens?
EDIT: Yeah, race somewhere local... racetracks are too far away and too costly. Nothing wrong with a little street racing.. as long as you are responsible.

Edmunds.com said are car weighed 2465lbs?? 01Coupe you seem to be knowledgable! I have a questions for you (Or all of you) Do you think the Si's can generate more Hp out of mods as opposed to an Lx? And also if they have the same camshafts? Thanks!
Anyways, I know my car very well! I've beaten many other cars because of my takeoffs and shifting. Yet, I wish I was more consistent in my times. Any who, maybe 01coupe you can join us. Like I said it's up to you guys were we race can be street or strip. If you don't feel comfortable with street wi'll go strip. I do know quite a few places in the GTA were to street race were there is civilians. Your choice...

Ok.....I don't really wish to talk about the time and location on an open forum so I'll PM REDVIC within couple of days. OH...by the way,,,it seems like that this well be a Honda vs Toyota thing...
My friends 2000 Corolla 5speed would like to challenge one of you guys as well(totally stock except the wheels). I know that many carnuts like us, look down on the Corollas but trust me....they're way under-rated!
This is what i'll do,,,,,,,I race whomever that beats the corolla first. If I loose,,the pitchers on Toyota brothers.......just one pitcher though. So don't get too horny over the beer thing.
And I really would like to go to the track....but we'll see.

Haha yeah, if you guys race, I will be there... I'm liquidsilver's brother. He has that notorious Prelude-killing, BMW-killing, Pontiac GrandPrix killing Celica I've been telling you guys about. I'm pretty positive the Civic weighs 2600lb+ because the 6th Gen weighs in around 2650, and I don't see ours being any lighter. On the otherhand, the Celica, when you drive it, feels very lean and light. You can tell Toyota tried hard to save weight--even seats are thin, dash feels thin, etc... the 15" rims themselves only weigh 15lb. Not Rotas, but not 23lb of our car's stamped steel wheels either.
But I totally believe you if you beat up on a lot of cars, because the driver is the biggest factor in city racing, when dealing with stick shift. Anybody can stomp & go on an auto, but you need precise timing and good knowledge about your car to drive a stick well. I drive an automatic LX (supposively the slowest car in Honda's arsenal) daily, and to this day, I have never lost to another 7th Genner before. Even Si with stick. That's how badly most people drive.
Si does not really generate more horsepower than LX in reality. It used to, back when Civics were rated to produce 106HP. But now, when dynoed, the two cars are awfully similar. In fact, LX generates power a lot earlier than the Si (eventant by the fact that you can cruise at 100km/h on an LX at 2,500RPM, whereas Si needs 3,000RPM to maintane the same speed). Si has a slight advantage in the peak horsepower (by just 1 or 2HP)
Basically, I think it comes down to the compression ratio. Si is 0.5:1 higher than LX. There have been people mention the fact that LX has been quicker than Si in 1/4mile testings, backed up by some media publicatoins as well. I think LX is a quicker car in the city (more power down below) and Si is better on the highway (it breaths better with variable valve timing, and can sit on higher peak powerband when passing).

That doesn't mean that I can beat every lude..... I've surprised an auto lude and a stock 5spd with bodykit....the dude thought that I drove the GT-S. I did get pulled on by modded lude....had at least intake and exhaust and he slowly pulled on me in second gear.
Also when I first purchased the car, I got pulled on by the new Cavalier Z24(modded ofcourse) cause I didn't know how to launch the car properly.....I kept on bogging my engine.

Fact....celica gts vs eclipse gt vs rsx-s....
when it comes to pure 0-60 or 1/4 mile......the rsx was slightly ahead.
when it comes to braking and handling......the celica was way ahead.
when it comes to track racing?...................the celica was slightly ahead.
I think it was either motortrend or road and track mag.
