i went to the dealer and offered $21250cdn(freight, administration, and airtax included).....anyone think i'm low balling them? isn't $24331.25 after taxes a fair price for a clearance 02 SiG? also, there was a 6-7inch scratch on the passenger door(not the deep kind but it's still a scratch)

i was thrown out of the dealership =(

i want a SiG....

No biggie, I walked out of 3 dealerships before I bought my civic. One of them called me back a day later to say they could give it to me for what I had offered after all. Patience is a virtue.

Whats the MSRP incl freight etc (pre-salestax) on that model?

I think you did pretty good... $1500~ off MSRP is decent.
BTW, 'Administration' charges are total BS, when I was negotiating I just subtracted that nonsense from my offer. The dealer I ended up getting it from didn't have any such charge anyway. I took the $850 freight/pdi as a fixed amount (maybe it was negotiable also, but oh well)

I don't know what you are talking about battery and tire levy....???? Sounds like the made that up, how much was it?
Air tax yes, $100 right? I also got a Fuel Tax Rebate of $175 I believe which they just about conveiniently left out during the paperwork until I asked about it. Maybe that doesn't exist for the Si because of its more powerful engine.

All new car sales should include a full tank of gas, although I guess some don't but talk about cheapo if they don't.

I got $1000 off MSRP on my '02 LX sedan last Feb, pre-tax. You can expect the discount to be greater on '02 models during end of year cleanout time.

battery, and tire levy are BC stuff..provincial levies that all buyers have to pay if the car is new....no way out of that....i didn't include it as part of my offer but the sales guy waived them off cause he thought our offer included them....heheh

$1000 off of MSRP is pretty decent...i'd consider it a minimum you should be able to negotiate off of any car...
i find it easier to negotiate on sedans than coupes....i was able to negotiate nearly $2000 off of a 2002 DX-G sedan(during august)...i didn't take the deal though...i wanted a coupe instead...

my first LX coupe came with only half a tank of gas....i complained and he said they only fill it with $20 of gas...that's bull cause $20 for me will fill the tank at least 3/4 full...

Good deal, I bought my '02 Si (manual) for 20460 before taxes. I don't know if it's true but I've heard that during year end clearance, dealerships recieve huge bonuses when selling cars, therefore they are willing to go way below MSRP.

yeah, they recieve reimbursements from the manufacturer...they never tell you how much though...one of the dealers gave me an automatic $1400 off of an accord when i called them and enquired about the car...

problem with honda is that they advertise clearances and use the MSRP prices in the ads...
they never tell you how much the manufacturer rebates are....dealers will try to sell the vehicle to you at MSRP...you just gotta offer them low and guess at how much you should spend....

what i noticed about many cars that have sat on the lot for a really long time is that they often have lots of scratches on them...i went to several dealerships and time after time i found scratches on the cars....they weren't deep ones though...the thing is that if u order a car, the dealer just polishes away the scratches...sometimes they use that filler crap scratch remover and you find the scratch on your car after a month or so cause that filler crap got washed away...by then, it's too late to rant to the dealership....

I am not sure if they would have the seasonal (clearance) dealer incentives or not but carcostcanada.com can give you a quote of the dealer invoice price. I seem to recall one of the other cars I looked at had something like that listed as 'dealer trading dollars' on the dealer cost quote. I liked having the info because it gave me an idea of how low I could offer without being stupid.

they do get reimbursements! one time, one of the sales guys even admitted it to me ....
i was also able to negotiate close to 12% off of a base Accord at richmond honda but changed my mind about buying it...bought a SiG instead...

been negotiating on civics for awhile now and it's rare that a dealer will even talk to you if you try to negotiate 10% off of a civic(around 10% off is the cheapest i've heard of a 7th gen selling for...)most will do around $1000 off easily but not much further...i got quite a lot more than $1000 off...

i have this feeling that places like carcostcanada are just helping peeps that are buying cars for a few hundred less than MSRP...

does anyone know what carcostcanada quote for any of the 7th gens? do they reccommend trying to buy the car for more than 5% off MSRP?

also, does honda use holdbacks? most domestic manufacturers use holdbacks therefore knowing invoice price is useless...
