I want to sounddeaden my door my trunk. I heard that brown bread from b-quiet.com is more effective but less expensive than Daynamat. Is there anyone in this forum who did sounddeadening of their door? I wish I could get some help. I never even put spare tire on by myself(despite having my own car for 8 years). So taking door panel off for me is like engine swap to you guys.

brown bread is better and much cheaper... i got an 80sq ft roll (i think it was 80).. for like $240 from b-quiet.com... that was enough for 2 layers on the doors, one layer on the inside of the door panels... 2 layers on the trunk lid, and some on the inside of the trunk (not quite enough though)

You laid out all 80 sq feet?! HOLY CRAP!! That's a helluva lotta extra weight you're carrying... Besides eliminating rattles and the such, and keeping the bass in the car, do you find roadnoise to be alot less?? I wanna just deaden my 4 doors....

klam used that Brown Bread stuff.... he mentioned that it was friggen sticky as hell, and you need a heatgun to melt the stuff first... Horrible. I'm thinking Dynamat Extreme....

Man.... just think guys.... one layer doesn't cut it... Minimum 2 layers.... that's a helluva lotta work, money, and weight...

What about that pink insulation for houses????

Yup, I sound deadened my doors using a product Brown Bread which I bought off auction on eBay.

The stuff is pretty good, but it is a bit messy and very sticky. Using a heat gun/blow dryer definitely helps apply it, but I wouldn't recommend applying it if the weather gets too cold. It's ideal to apply it in the summer heat since it becomes more flexible and sticky.

I haven't used Dynamat Extreme, but I have heard from other's experiences (namely Mohawkboom) that Brown Bread is messier to use, but just as effective or more effective. But the biggest plus is that it is waaaay cheaper than Dynamat Extreme.

I've only done my four doors on my Acura EL, so I have most of my 80 sq-ft left and might be selling the rest since I have no further use of it. I just bought the bulk 80 sq-ft because it was cheaper!

Here are some pictures during the process when I did it at the beginning of summer.

It has definitely helped acoustically. I notice that outside noises are diminished and everything sounds that much better and clearer from my door speakers. However, I think only the owner of the car will notice since you know how everything sounded prior to the sound deadening. Passengers won't notice it, from what I found.

It will not make your car Lexus quiet, what it does do is I've noticed that for example if I was on volume bar 3, I would have to reduce my volume to bar 2 to maintain the same level to my ears, sort of like an amplification.

Also, since I did the doors, the biggest difference I notice is in noises eminating from the sides (e.g. people talking, cars driving by). It doesn't diminish road noise, tire noise, engine noise, since those come from floor, wheel wells, and firewall respectively. If you sound deaden those, I'm sure you'd get some good results, but it would require a lot of work to remove the floor carpet and seats, firewall, etc.

Also, I can't comment on how it has improved bass response since I added a subwoofer after the Brown Bread.

Anyone interested in a "SMALL group buy" of Brown Bread? KLam has some left, .... 80 ft? Not sure, but I only want enuff to Broen Bread my 4 doors, 2 layers.... Anything else, I don't want. I'm too lazy to do the rest of the car or the trunk....

Anyone?

KLam, how much BrownBread you have left, and how much did you use to do all 4 doors, 2 layers?

(obviously, there's only enuff Bread to stretch to another 1-2 more guys.... Anyone interested, post now...)

Actually, the original amount I bought was 70 sq-ft. I would guess that I used about 20-25 sq-ft for four doors, though I'd have to take a look at what I have left.

I'll get back to you guys on that when I take a look at it at home tonight.

They are sound deadening material, which has found popularity with car enthusiasts. Mostly they are used to improve the acoustics in a car by quietting down the cabin from outside noises, although people can just use them to quiet the car down. They are made of an adhesive rubber asphalt material I think, and the principle is that they add mass to the inner metal panels of the car making it much more difficult for noise to transmit through them.

Do a search on Google for "dynamat extreme brown bread" or take a look at B-quiet.

Decamo has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Klam, from the looks of it you don't have enough brown bread on your doors. You should put 2 layers to be effective and use larger cuts.
You should double up and use whats left of your brown bread on your car.

From the research and shoot outs I've seen Brown bread is superior to dynamat but dynamat extreme is superior to brown bread. It takes 2 layers of brown bread to equal one layer of dynamt extreme and even then its not as good. Brown bread is still cheaper though so thats what i ordered and have on the way.

I put double layer on some of the main parts of the door panel (like right in the middle), but not the entire area (edges). You're probably right though, I probably could have gotten more Brown Bread on there. I find that it did make a difference regardless, but the largest source of noise is the floor and firewall now.

Brown Bread is supposed to be 0.4 lb/sq-ft.

Yeah, most European cars have thicker sheet metal and glass, not to mention stiffer chassis. Even looking at a Lexus shows that thicker materials definitely helps quiet the car.
