trunk f'ucked

when my brand new civic got rear ended the other day, i thought it was just the bumper cover that was damaged...

i took it into the icbc claim centre and they found damage all over the trunk too....

the spare tire well has buckled and shiet....

what do i do now? they say the frame is alright but i hate to have to drive a car with a reshaped trunk....
there's no way anyone can make bent sheet metal back to the original condition....it may look the same but it will never again be able to withstand the same amount of force it was designed to absorb...

claim for the full amount. since you're not at fault, they have a right to restore your car to perfect condition

yeah, they agreed to use new oem parts but how do you restore a messed up trunk to original condition?

isn't it part of the body of the car and cannot be replaced without replacing the entire car? now the problem is that there is no way to restore the trunk to perfect condition because bent sheet metal loses strength when bent over and over again....

it may look the same as original but it will not be as strong as the original

I don't remember how much dmg you got, but most of the time it's just body. The frame should be ok... Of coz you can't expect "perfect" as in brand new, just fix it so that nothing scrapes.......... I feel for you man, and we thought the nips and dents were bad..................

Get it to a dealer with a body shop like Action Honda. Most dealers don't have inhouse body and they take your car *to* a body shop.

well isn't it logical to just smash up both the cars and create a total loss?

the other guy's insurance is going up anyways, right?

you'd have to smash a hell of a lot more than that in the rear if you want to create a total writeoff... thats barely any damage comparatively...

and yes the other guys insurance is going up... but it would go up much much more if it was a writeoff...

but if the damage warranted it you could get a whole new back end, and get yours cut off and the other one welded on but I highly doubt that is going to happen... plus its not much better anyways if any...
