First of all, my friend... it's a FACT that Toyotas ARE more durable than Hondas. That is in the history books. Check CAA and AAA records. Check consumers report. Check anywhere. Toyota is the benchmark of durability & reliabilty. They have won more #1 reliability records than ANY other manufactor in the history of automobiles. Honda does well in North America and has a good reputation here. World wide, where people drive cars to the ground (ie - Africa and South America), Toyotas are FAR much respected than Hondas. Honda has always taken 2nd place for reliability (2nd over all, and nothing to be ashamed of).
Second--many mechanics at Honda told me that the 7th Gen Civic's auto tranny have problems. They get fried prematurely. Ask them yourself. Also ask them which Civics have more problems--6th or 7th Gen. They will ALL say 7th (I know, because I asked 9 different mechanics are 5 different dealerships). I don't know where you go your reports from.
Third--my car rattled like a Ford the week after I got it. This is long before springs, or rims, or any mods. When I was vacumming my car's interior for the first time, if found 3 loose bolts. I also discovered that the glove box compartment door did not close properly. All those things and more contribute to rattles. I don't expect a silent ambience. This isn't a Rolls Royce. But I certainly can recognize a rattle that isn't stupposed to be there.
Fourth--I didn't buy my Corolla to beat on it. It was my first car, and as an immature driver, every one abuses their first cars. It's called a discovery stage. Only reason why I brought it up was for a comparison purpose. My Corolla took a beating from hell, and my Civic couldn't take much. Our family has gone through a lot of Toyotas (89 MR-2, 97 4Runner, 99 4Runner, 94 Previa, and 92 Corolla), and they've all been extremely reliable. This is our first experience with Honda, and it crapped out on me. Brand new. Needless to say, I am not impressed. What can I say. I can close my eyes and say "hey it's just a lemon." But what's broken, is still broken. No excuses.
Last--I have a right to whine. I bought a brand new car, with 73,000km on it, the tranny crapped out. Why the f**k should I not whine about it? Even if I drive a Kia and the tranny crapped out, I would STILL be mad as hell. But it happened to a Honda. A Civic, the most basic car of all Hondas, for f**ks sake. I shouldn't be mad? What the f**k man, should I be smiling about this?

Can you tell me who is alldata.com? Sorry, but it's just another stupid website with numbers. Just like "radartest.com". The truth is, recalls alone do not determine reliability. There are numerous things WRONG with 7thGenCivics, but you don't see any recalls posted. Including the hundreds of people having problems with gargling noise that the car makes in rain. I'd rather trust REAL EXPERIENCE data, from CAA and AAA. They give out facts based on REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE. From all the people that are straded on the highway because of DEFECTIVE PARTS. Toyota Corolla and Camry has continueously won #1 and #2 position as the most reliable cars on the road, period.
The reason why I bought my car in 2001 is for a few GOOD reasons. I was debating between a Mazda Protege, Toyota Corolla S and the Honda Civic. The Civic won my heart because if its driving dynamics, superior brakes, superior interior room and its styling. It had the most options for the price range, and was the only car to have 5 star crash protection. I also considered its benchmark resale value and past reliability records. The truth is, only *YOU* would think Civics with rims are *COOL*. I don't need a "COOL" car to elevate my social status like you do. I am angry because my tranny gave out prematurely. You are angry because I am putting down your car. You take it personally like I insulted your girlfriend.
You talk so much garbage. Have you even OWNED a Toyota? Nothing I have said in my past is from my stipulations, or my guesses. They are bases on HARD FACTS, that happened to ME. You on the other hand, GUESS that Hondas are just as reliable as Toyotas.
