Tach for my DX

I have an 02' Civic DX that only has a speedo, fuel and temp gauges but no tach. I was thinking of putting one in but I want one the would mounth within the instument area. Has anyone done this? Could anyone recomment a tach that would fit and work with existing/stock ignition system? I don't want to cover up the temp/fuel gauge, but if they are a little blocked that works too.

Thanks in advance

just buy a cheap EX cluster off ebay for 01-02 civic and swap it in plug and play. only thing is your mileage will change.

^^ That's what I did. I found a pretty cheap cluster on ebay from an 01 EX and swapped it in... very easy to do. 5 screws and 2 clips... plug and play like gearbox said.. I've heard that you can get your milage reset to what the ECU says, but I haven't found anyone who can do it.

i third that. like the above have stated just look for a stock cluster that came out of the canadian civic (lx-g for sedan or si for coupe) if you want to retain the km/h form of the speedometer. So best place to look for this is probably a local juinkyard. Unless you wanna do the conversion to the new 03+ cluster which looks a lot better imo (you just gotta do a few pin swaps).

Thanks for all your help, I'm going to check the local wreckers and see what's out there. I'm still concerned about cracking the dash open but it sounds pretty simple, whatever I do I'll do some before/after pics.

I have an '01 DX. swaped in an '05 LX/Si guage cluster. I had to get my hands on the wiring diagram from Honda and re-wire my clips before I plugged it back in. Thats one thing you might want to double check when going from a DX to LX/Si.

yep, i have a 01 dx too, and has also swapped my cluster with a 05 cluster. I got myself another set of clips so i then i dont need to rewire pins to any of them. Its really convienent because if i want to swap back in my other cluster, i can just unplug the 'adapter' and thats it. If anything, i have a US cluster but it doesnt matter, alot of cars are available from floods, thats where i got mine from. 8)
