Getting a wee bit tense in this thread it seems .. perhaps someone can start passing around the "peace" pipe..
I honestly wouldn't do the same as the guy here - mainly because I know the towing service would be covered under the CAA plan of mine. But like has been stated, not everyone reads the fine prints and asks the right questions. If I didn't know, nor had my lock-key with me, I'd probably ask for a flat-bed as well. But I'd sure as hell take the flat-bed than end up riding on the Xth lift truck that happened along - even if it was free.

I don't think they take into consideration a person doesn't use the first tow truck coming across them in their engineering.
Not only that... when highways are engineered... they don't factor rice boy corrado owners (or civic owners) to lower their vehicles... however... vehicles that come factory low like Porsche and Ferrari are far and few in between in comparison to lowered Civics.. we out number them probably a hundred to one at best.
Not to mention... who doesn't carry their lock nut with them...? Carry your lock nut.
Also... drive your car to a section of the highway with a shoulder... even if you have a flat. No big deal. If you have enough money to modify a vehicle.. I'm sure you can spare the extra change to buy a new tire if you happen to ruin it by driving on it. **** happens. Deal with it.
At the very least.. he should have made an attempt to drive the vehicle to a portion of highway with a shoulder... there aren't very large stretches on the 401 where there is no shoulder.. there are MANY sections but within a couple hundred meters MAX there is a section with a shoulder.

In your owners manual it says that our cars (7thgen) can only be towed with a flatbed. Your all telling me that if you knew that a regular tow would harm your car that you wouldn't demand a flatbed?

doesnt make much sense for me to put on my spare tire and then lower my car back down till the body panels rest on the pavement
so all this crap about 'keep your wheel lock with you so you can change a tire' doesnt mean **** unless he carries a fifth rim around with him in his tiny corrado
so i certainly hope that you're "smart enough to put your wheel lock in your glove box" so that you can either ride around on your monster truck with rims, or so that you can lower your frame right to the ground with the spare on

Is it my problem that your car is lowered? If its a problem where you can't use the spare because your car is to low, I could really care less if you car is going to be dragged along the 401 by a tow truck ... Don't lower your car then ....

I agree with that above! Don't lower your car if you're going to worry about scraping the ground.
I'm sorry to say but you must be a HUGE A S S H O L E if you believe that you are allowed to hold up traffic for 1.5 hours because you don't want the bottom of your car being scraped along the pavement. That has got to be the most SELFISH and EGOTISTIC act I have ever seen anybody do... and I'd be glad to kick you in the teeth after you do it... along with the thousands of other people that were stuck on the 401 that day because of a parsimonious and narcissistic son of a b1tch.

So what it comes down to is just that some people care..about their cars(me) everyone else can bitch as much as they want but till my flat bed arrives...guess what your all gonna be in stop/go traffic. People are gonna lower their cars so there is no avoiding that. Sorry for everyones else's poor luck but If I get a flat I'm sure I'll see you on your cell phone bitching while you pass!!!!!hahahahhahahahah

This discussion seems just to be spiralling out of control ..
The fact remains that the driver in this article should have shown a lot more tack in his actions. There are plenty of us here that are lowered and deal with the hassles of it. In any event, many would rather use a flatbed rather than a lift-truck (lowered or not) - even as one member pointed out, Honda recommends the use of a flatbed only to tow our cars. This driver had the right intentions ordering it (fine, not a Honda but again not many want to see their bumper/exhaust being scrapped). The driver however should have followed through on it, and not copped out like a cheap idiot. He will get what he deserves, unfortunately for the thousands his actions affected, the punishment will surely not be enough.
So let's all take this story into consideration - perhaps next time, it might even be you on the side of the road with a flat or worse.
