I had the most frustrating time installing mine Telly.
I hope you have an easier install. Feel free to call my cell if there's any way I can help you.

Just gotta add that so far 909 has been a great help with picking components and the little nuances, like making sure I account for EMI, picking a high shock-rated hard drive, etc etc. Dude, I owe you huge.
No Telly, thank you for keeping it real. For being such a fvcking good guy when we meet up, or when we talk over the phone. You've earned a role model status for your self, and a lot of what you say and do has had a big influence on how the people of 7thgen modify their cars, myself included. You're a celebrity dude.
Azn, I do have a small keyboard that lights up indigo blue, but I never use it. There's really no need for it. I mostly use the GPS with music in the background or watch videos, like **** and stuff so there's not much to type.
Having wireless internet is the similar to driving around with a laptop and a wireless card looking for open networks. I believe Tellys setup will have wireless internet, so we should arrange meets outside of more fancy places that have open networks from now on, like a parking lot infront of starbucks or something. We could make a live updating thread with real time pictures so people who can't attend a meet, can feel like they're actually there.

Hey bud, you're describing me like I'm some sort of good guy or something. I'm not btw, I stole your cat last night, I put him to work opening beer bottles and dealing blackjack. I was just browsing about the mp3car.com site and a few thoughts entered my THC-addled mind:
1) I'm going against your recommendation and grabbing a USB receiver for my GPS, but I was thinking, due to my upcoming clearance problems plus the big rims, I want to use software that will allow me to mark places like what you said - wireless internet hotspots. Also, potholes on the 401 (have a warning that comes up "Pothole, left lane, 2 km)"). Oh and speed traps. Not that my car will be able to significantly surpass the speed limit what with all the extra weight and the rims. Does your software allow you to add these points on the fly? There's so many suites out there I'm having trouble deciding which to get.
2) Wireless-G kit so I can run my 3 home computers wireless and then when I want songs I'll drive my car up to the visitors parking at my condo and pull them off the network.
3) Dude, I found a custom 6-foot SATA cable! You know what that will let me hook up in the cockpit, bwahahahahaa.....I just hope the data loss is not significant seeing as how it's almost double the max spec listed by so many stores.
4) You've got mediacar as your front end right? How do you like it? Myself I don't care to install the winamp program that so many front ends need, so I'm having trouble picking. I may just leave it at XP and fuqq around with the fonts and shortcuts.
5) I found a dead pixel the other day. And the door to my room fell off its hinges 5 minutes later. I dunno why, but now I'm trapped in my room every morning.
6) Xenarc rules
7) Xenarc rules
8) Need several hard drives...my **** alone will fill up a single laptop 80GB. Not that it's good to drive around with **** on your screen.
9) If I do decide to go with a front end for my media/GPS, can you tell me which (if any) work best with my external USB sound card? You were right about the noise factor on these btw. I plugged my DJ headphones into my Compaq Deskpro's internal card and even moving the mouse made noise. However plugged into my Creative MP3+ sound card, no noise, even with the software and headphone output volumes maxed. My ears hurt now though.
10) Do you have a cam installed on your car? Damn me for not spending the extra 20 bucks and getting a Xenarc with RCA video inputs in addition to the VGA. Really screwed me for a backup cam setup, but now maybe I can get a USB webcam instead...
11) Xenarc rules.
I don't really care if you answer this thread, seeing as how we're emailing and I'm calling you all the time anyway. I figure I'll just kidnap you and get you drunk to pry more secrets out of you. And that way you can be reunited with your cat. I renamed him Skippy and shaved off the fur on the left side of his body. Oh and he's addicted to meth now.

Ha Ha Ha, that cat sounds talented yo ! Reminds me of EVIL Kermit : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5558841381
Telly if you insist on USB, please don't get a Garmin 18 USB. They only transfer their own proprietary Garmin binary data and not NMEA, which means they will only work with garmin software, and not our fancy modified software.
The two big players in the GPS software game are Destinator and Iguidance, both have speedcameras and can be updated on the fly I believe.
Wow I never knew they made SATA that long but I just hope 6ft is long enough. I ran some wires recently, and it took 15ft to get from the trunk to the dash.
Mediacar is decent, and is simple to operate but can sometimes be buggy. The main reason you'd want a front end is because it'll be easy to read, and quick to navigate. It does the job but is lacking a few features. Too bad it's abandoned, if the coder updated his app from time to time, it would be the best front end out there today. I'd still recommend it for its simplicity.
It sucks that you found a dead pixel. Any chance of returning it? Apparantly I hear they have a good rep for these types of things. I guess it's more appropriate to ask if it's worth the hassel and wait of returning it, I know I wouldn't cuz I couldn't wait that long.
Xenarc is the sickest motherfvcking sh:t ever in life
.
Too bad they didn't make a 10" at the time I bought my ELO
. The new ones like yours should have a special coating on it to reduce the glare, which is going to help a great deal during peak daylight, when the sun is at its brightest. Amazing picture, quality components, great choice dude.
80 gigs not enough? Damm you're a media *****. bhwaawawawa
The only cam I have in my car is a nightvisioin camera in the backseat bwhaawawa.. j/k.
I don't have any cams yet, but I guess I should get one. Webcams are cheap and disposable. Your computer will act as a recorder so you can record stuff. So right there, you have gained something by not getting a Xenarc tuner
woot

Bah, for one miniscule half-dead (not black, just off-colour) pixel, I'm not gonna ship back. The money I used to pay for it was sorta free and unexpected, so I actually still have the cash I budgeted to buy another one, and this can be made a backup or something....
I'll look into the two GPS suites you just said...what's your take on Roadrunner for a front end? Is that one still getting updates?
Your cat says hi and to send more canned mango juice.

Sh*t Will I can't wait to see this project done. Just a thought from a n00b like me, does this project require you to have another battery solely for power supply or is the battery you have in there suitable enough? And 80GB of **** seems normal for Lolo, he's got issues
J/P bro don't come around now and steal my car & cut the springs
BTW, I love the wireless connection idea, about having live feeds from the meets and such. We just gotta find a wireless connection that won't require a WEP Key, or we just require someone who can umm, CRACK the WEP key
Anyways, 3:10AM Sunday night, I mean Monday morning now so I hope you guys understand the random blabber and consider my fatigue as the reason why I'm like this right now. Off to bed I go, for school tomorrow I mean later on this morning...

Yeah eventually I'll be sticking a depp-cycle battery in the trunk with an isolator for when the ignition is off. But that's later and as far as I read, not ABSOLUTELY necessary.
I think I need to get 2 hard drives, which will then start to really give me power issues.

A Tank circuit (isolated second battery) would be nice to have, but it's not completely necessary. I can see it comming in handy when parked for long periods of time, like at shows
I find myself not using the system much while the car is parked, so I've been running off the stock alternator and battery with no problems.
Power issues hmmmmm.Telly, You have the opus150 right? A buddy of mine had a underpowering issue with his, as it would crash because the opus just wasn't delivering enough juice. It would literally reset anytime the system was put under simple load like heavy graphics.
The solution was to strip the computer as bare as possible and disable as many of the services in XP as possible. And finally the opus was able to propery power a less demanding "trimmed" system. Any aux devices like teh screen, DVD, were powered via a inverter switched by a relay, or powered by another regulated power supply, like the ones that come with the external drive enclosures.
I'm gonna have to regut my electrical too when I install the opus once the weather warms up. We'll both be dealing with the same power issues then. LOL. Great. More work. I love creating unneccessary work for myself and getting frustrated.

LOL. Yeah I'm absolutely STRIPPING the XP installation, as well as powering the Opus off another source. My main issue is the P4 processor - I got greedy. But I think what I'm gonna do is find the setup that uses both inverter and Opus, while minimizing noise from the system. Things like the drives and cooling and stuff. I'll probably run a distro block in back so I can hook the inverter into the same power line that my amp uses. What are your thoughts on grabbing Opus, inverter, and amp power off a distro'd central poewr wire? Probably noisy....but I'm so lazy lately. I really want to avoid rewiring from the engine bay......so lazy.....eyes barely open.....*snore*
My wiring was done poorly due to some bad advice I got from a stereo shop. Needless to say I ran my own wires from the dash to the trunk. A new separate circuit just for the new system, but it'll be redone this summer.
I think it's fine to tap, like in your example. Just fuse each feed, and make sure it's making a solid ground connection. Run the data, video, audio ect as far away from the power wires as possible, like on the opposide door sill, or through the center console, and you won't even notice any EMI.
Hey Telly when are you planning on installing your stuff.
I just finished my screen last night, can't wait to show you the final result.

As soon as I get the rest of my parts...buyin a new hard drive this wknd, my mounting kit and custom SATA cable have to be reshipped cause the mailman couldn't find my condo or some crap.
