Well guys, in light of my new job and schedule, as well as just plain old fatigue, I've decided to get out of the modding-for-hire game for a while. Since I work 12-8 now, there's no time on weeknights to get any decent work done. Plus I have my contract job as network admin for another company, I build PC's on the side, and of course a man's gotta eat (I only get one meal a day most days due to time constraints). I even work weekends sometimes now, and will be travelling across the country a lot starting (conveniently) around show season, so even Saturdays and Sundays aren't reliable times for me to book appointments to do anything to anyone's cars. That's the official reason.
Unofficially, and this is where one of my trademark rants begins, I'm just tired of it. I'm tired of signing on to my computer after work only to have 12 (I'm not exaggerating) MSN Messenger windows pop up simultaneously, all from people who either want something done or want me to type a step-by-step DIY over messenger for them. Can't I watch my webcam h0ez stripping for me in peace? Also I'm tired of the phone calls at 11pm asking if I'm free to drive down to Toronto that night to help remove/clear/seal up headlights (this has happened more than a few times). I'm tired of haggling over prices and being lowballed, and I'm especially tired of having to justify charging money for my work. There is a reason a dollar value needs to be put on such things. For example, consider how many consoles I've done over the last couple of years for people - I've charged anywhere from $100-$200 per job for these guys, and yes I've had people balk at the price, but think about how many people would be coming up and asking for it to be done if I'd posted a price of $50. I wouldn't be getting any sleep, my work would be rushed, and it would be ****-poor workmanship at that. THEN what would happen to my reputation, which I fear for already now what with the several cases of burnt-out LED's from my last round of consoles? I've said it before and I'll say it again, when you charge money for a mod, you're ensuring that only people serious about it are calling you up, cause they know they're paying for quality and (at least in my case) a guarantee that any problems arising from the mod will be resolved by myself. I think most would agree I do decent work, and I think I should be free to charge what I want for the work. Don't like it? Go elsewhere, if you know someone who can do that particular mod, and do pass the word if you get a great job done at a good price, no hard feelings.
Trust me when I say the money from modding isn't as good as all of you would tend to believe. I don't have a shop's lease or electricity bills to worry about, and that's why I don't charge as much as a shop would for stuff like spring installs and such. But since I don't have a shop or even a garage anymore, I drive out to see my "clients", and lug all my tools and the infamous Eddie Bauer wire bag with me, so there are still expenses on my part. Look at it like this: after I've driven to Richmond Hill from Mississauga to clear your headlights, your $50 covers my gas, some of the consumables (silicone, spraypaint if blacking out), and maybe a meal on the way home, with perhaps some coins and a green piece of paper left over for my trouble. Does 20 bucks for what will basically amount to a whole day's expedition seem worth it to you? How about spending the last of that money on some bandaids (I haven't modded your car till I've spilled blood in it). Basically I've come out of it with a couple packs of smokes or a spindle of CD-R's. I always said I did it to pimp out peoples' rides, but let's face it would YOU drive around southern Ontario modifying peoples' rides and making just above break-even? Make it worth your modder's while, and he'll be good to you I promise. Make him feel like you're doing HIM a favour by paying him, and you'll have a hell of a time getting him out to see you again.
Someone posted up a while ago about how he was bothered that team members are charging fellow members money for mod help, and that trades in services would be more appropriate. This hurt me a little because not to sound arrogant or high-and-mighty, but think about the work I do and look at the car I drive - it's not the best car on here by miles, not the cleanest not the fastest not the lowest. But keep in mind that save for the molded and repainted bumpers, ALL the work on this car has been done with my two hands, and sometimes my teeth. I hardly ever have to ask people for help when actually modding my car, and most of my "helpers" will attest that their jobs are usually limited to holding tools and handing them to me in operating-room fashion, or (if it's a girl helping me), the occasional dance or backrub (rawr). Frankly if you need me to do your LED centre console or stereo install, then you most likely don't have the facilities or skillset to do the work that I WOULD need done, and there's not much else I'm gonna be doing to my baby anyway. Sure, if you had something to offer that I needed, I would most definitely talk business with you, but if you don't have the ability to provide a service I need, then why not provide the service EVERYONE needs, and dish out a little dough? Only fair IMO. But yes, I've modded in exchange for something I needed, like my Motoform winter rims for example (thanks dropgear). But again, if you don't have anything I need or want, then why would I mod your car for something you're offering that I have no desire of placing in my car/home/computer?
There, rant over, just had to get that off my chest. All this said and done, I'm not out of the game completely, but maybe this little break will help me rest up a little, de-stressify, and re-examine my priorities, both car- and life-related. I still have a commitment to about half a dozen very special vehicles this summer, I owe these guys big. And what they gave to me a long long time ago is worth way more to me than all of the cash I've ever made modding anyone's cars. Without them I wouldn't be here ranting about mods I do, because I would never have gotten into this whole expensive business. You guys know who you are. I'll still be on here dispensing my special brand of cannabis-fueled retardation, and I'll still be at meets when I can make it out, but if you've got cash in your pocket to get some work done, you'd better ask AlienX, 1llmatic, the Ottawa and London crews (gifted motherfvckers that they are), or any of the other gurus in Canada East. Thanks for reading guys, I know some of you may disagree with what I've posted on here and that's fine, I'm just stating my own reasons, my own interpretations, and my own feelings on the whole deal, so I hope you now see it from my point of view. Wow that feels much better.

No hard feelings bro. I never actually had you do any work to my car (mainly cause I'm too poor) but I've seen some of your work and I can justify you asking what you ask for. I can understand you not wanting to do anymore **** cause quite frankily, I know how time consuming and hard it is to do. I've done plenty of work to my own car and other peoples cars and depending on the job, it's not easy.
On a couple occasions I remember talking to you on msn through other people's contacts and I can understand how overwhelming it would be to have 20 messages a day asking for more help.
But anyways, good luck with work and hopefully I'll see you around sometime.
On a side note, if anyone needs help with anything, I'm more then capable of helping you guys out. I've done most of the stuff Telly has done ie. spring/coilover installs, soldering LED's, Clearing/smoking headlights, installing decks, running wires for amps/subs/bootycalls etc... so PM me if you guys feel the need to. And if you're up for the drive to London, I can help install whatever you need.

no one has earned time off like you have will...im shocked and appauled that anyone would try and lay a guilt trip on you for charging for your services...you have been a key component to the progression in can east as a modifier and having noobies walk in and telling you whats up has got to be pretty insulting. i know this first hand and totally side with you.
now people will just have to learn on their own...maybe this will make others see the error of their ways and they will gain a new perspective....
but thank you Will for showing me what this game's about and helping me out!

Hello everybody...
some of you may know me as Will's old partner in crime and buddy who used to help him mod cars...
well like Will, I have been at a slow down with my car as well, I try too keep the mods as simple as hell now, due to the recent theft that had happened....and my car shall be built as a daily driver with some tweaks here and there....
not a lowrider as it once was (which I so miss so much)....just a mode of transportation to get to point a to b....well a much faster mode that is :P
for the mod world out there.....I shall not rule it as I once had did.....its only now done too selectively choosin I guess you can say...
too many cheap skates out there as was mentioned, those who juss low ball or just dont want to listen to words of wisdom.....
so I aint sayin I am gone...but I will be in the shadows...lurkin around and popin around here and there.....I cant leave just yet.....too many memories have been made and yet still going....never expected it neither but a lot of close friends have been made as well which are as close as family...its unrealy yo'z
time to focus on other things, time to I guess enjoy life in other way...spend time with my wifey and plan for the future...
who knows when I get older....yall could be seein me rockin a DUMPED TSX with 20's tucked under the fenders thanks too all the negative camber!!!!!
And to Will good luck...I knew that your time in the corporate world was comming and now you are there....time to turn that **** of the corporate world upside down...
dont forget dude to chase dem cougars and hot MILFS....and remember to mention my name...

This sounds like a eulogy for Will/Telly
The guy's tired, and has re-aligned his priorities and goals. I admire the guy for his resourcefullness, attitude, and sheer interest in modding cars.
I had my EL headlights blacked out, hanging with him at 3 headlight meets. Never had I seen someone work so hard for so little, with the skills that he's got, treating each car as his own.
And, he's right. Last time all I could do was hand him tools
(I even dropped a wrench onto a drying headlight
) The next few sessions I tried my best to help him out; a true teacher.
Will, don't be lying, you be ballin' with all the hotties is what you're doing!
Here's a pic of the HOTTEST, RAWEST, CAR MODEL! (This is Will
) http://821mark.50megs.com/cgi-bin/i/...n/P9060021.jpg
Side note: I'm listening to some DJ DoBoy mixes, came across this pic.... It looks suspiciously like Will... If it ain't him, at least we know this is someone Will aspires to be! Big Baller!
(NOTE: THIS IS NOT WILL!)
