Any HID H4 gurus here?
Contemplating H4 HIDs again, and wondering if anyone has any experience with this...
- Any H4 HID dual beam kit that uses STANDARD D2S or D2R bulbs. Alternatively, a kit that is local, and/or will continue to supply bulbs...
- Any solution to maintain DRL
- Could possibly hook up one of those showoff kits with the HID... It's basically a tiny (LED) bulb that clips onto the H4 bulb. Usually used for show/colour purposes. Only probaly I see is that they probably draw/run off 12V... For DRL you'd want it to trigger at 6V. (I'd want it to be triggered automatically through DRL, and not thru a separate switch, otherwise I'd never use it.)
- Any solution to maintain high beam flashing.
- I have fogs, but it just wouldn't be the same; I'd have to reach down and press the butten, then depress it again.
- The HID kits that move the entire bulb only work after they have been ignited...
A complete retrofit would be an issue, and doesn't fix the high beam issues, just glare.....
Too bad there are no projectors that fit into the EL.... Custom molding a set of Civic projectors, or other form of 2 bulb headlight, or TSX, etc. is just too expensive....

Hey Fuzzy, I have a set of Brightstars installed in my car right now (and know more people who are selling). They're great IMO, a hi-lo kit, but the high beam is conventional halogen.
Maintaining DRL is easy on my kit because of the halogen bulb used for the high beam. Problem is of course flashing your high beams will momentarily turn off the HID bulb while the halogen one is illuminated - this is bad for the HID bulb, so I never do it.
DRL on a bixenon kit (the kind where high and low beams are controlled on a single bulb using a sliding shield/reflector) is inadvisable, as the low voltage running through the ballast is bad for the whole assembly, shortening the lifespan significantly. But at least you'll be able to flash high beams all day long without wrecking the bulb.
You COULD wire up one of those city light kits you find online and on ebay, and they can indeed fit over the H4 mounting points. Problem is LED's don't do jack for that kind of illumination, so you might as well not bother.
One thing you could do is run your fogs off a relay to turn on when your DRL is activated, thus not having to worry about flicking a switch, and you won't have to worry about messing with your HID's. I didn't do this, and in fact disconnected my DRL's via the fuses. I figure if the weather/light is bad enough where I'd need DRL's to see or be seen, I can turn on my corner lights (plenty bright you can see me from plenty far) or just turn on the headlights and cover all my bases.
Brightstars are pretty good for the price, but some people have had problems with them and it IS hard to find parts locally. Maybe I've been lucky with mine, but both are still lit and light up my road just great. I advise talking to Impulse about an H4 set, he has great deals and there are quite a few people who will attest to the quality of the kits he provides.

Telly, do you have any local hookups for the kit? What's the price I'll be looking at? (PM me privately if you wish)
Read your old threads about your HIDs....
- The halogen hi beam bulbs, are they "standard", in that they are plug and play, and that I can go out and buy ANY H1(?) bulb for it, and replace it?
- The HID bulbs, are they custom bases, in that I have to find bulbs from the manufacturer?
- What setup are you running; are you running with DRL? (A tad bit confusing when you went into the DRL + dual beam == bad for ballast thing)
- Are you running any shields? Does it come with shields? (I found Casper shields, what everyone is talking about, here: https://www.casperselectronics.com/M...Category_Code= )

What's going on here?? You bought your set used, and now you know someone else wanting to sell the kit?? Why is everyone selling????
Is there any form of relay, or EASY fix, to make the high and low beam (i.e. HID bulb and halogen bulb) light up at the same time, when high beam is turned on? Would there even be a difference? (i.e. the HID may drown out the halogen)...

I bought mine brand new. My friend whp's selling his has several sets to sell. But I did tell you a few people had problems with them.
There is a way to wire it so that the high beam comes on and stays on even with the HID's, but I don't see the point. Honestly I don't think anyone you were high-beaming would even notice.

i personally have K2 9000k HIDs and they are great they retro fitted in to the H4 slot with no problem.. i have had no problem with them soo far. i have had them in since july.... i took my fuse out for the DRL.. only because my hids are only low beams. no sense getting hi/low if you'll never use the high.. just doesn't make sense... got mine brand new from SLIPSTREAM... speak with Gary if you have any other questions...

What kinda problems have you heard about this kit? Does your contact stand behind the product, and offer new product/help if defective???

I've heard of ballasts or bulbs dying, which is really the only thing that can go wrong with these kits. And my contact is not a business, just a friend who got his hands on a few extra when the deals were good.

Actually.... had another question to you HID guys...
Do eyebrows (plastic, or tape) work to curb the glare? Would it be ok to use eyebrows/tape instead of adjusting them?? I'm thinking no, since you'll still be blinding oncoming traffic from the rest of the non-covered portions... Tho it may help with a lower cutoff point tho.

No it won't. you would have to cover the bottom of the headlight housing to reduce glare. I just made a shield for my philips d2rs.

sooo sexy
