Are 18's bad for Ontario roads?
Everyone has been telling me to stay away from 18 inch rims but do they really bend that easily when you hit a pothole?...any guys or gals form ontario ride on 18's? any problems? what do you suggest?
BTW: my ride has a 1.75 inch drop so i can't really go with a big tire

Ive been on 18's for about 4 years now as well. 2 years with my Civic and 2 with my Jetta. I havent experienced any problems with them at all. I did dent one of my rims when I had the Jetta but the pothole was on the Highway and I was doing about 120km when I hit it. I was very pissed but that pothole would have dented anybodys rim.

I'm on 17's and I wish I was on 16s. Sorry, but I like driving fast and I don't enjoy dodging every manhole cover and crawling over train tracks. 17s would be alright with a 45 profile, but not with 40 IMO. It would be different if the roads were smooth like a touring car circuit, but my experience is that they aren't. I'm not tryin to hate on those with larger rims, because I understand some of you are more concerned with visual appeal than with driving. So it's all about how you like to drive. If you tend to drive fast with big rims, there's a good chance you'll **** them up.
i've had 18's on my car for one summer and i haven't damaged them yet but it's been a headache to maintain.
i'm ALWAYS looking at the road for potholes and not what's around me(which can cause an accident), i'm constantly swerving to avoid dips and potholes, plus i find myself driving slower in some areas(dufferin area and midland area in scarboarough in particular) in fear that i might hit a big pothole. it's actually quite a tedius task when i drive long distances. on top of that, i can't allow anyone else to drive my car in summer(don't want to chance damaging my rims or suspension), which is a big problem at times.
i live in mississauga and the roads out here a pretty smooth in most areas so that helps quite a bit. i feel for all you toronto residents especially downtown. LOL!

Yeah **** I'll be working at Yonge & Eg starting next week....maybe I should downgrade...oh but I love my 19s!!!
I hear you about drivability vs looks CoupeStylz. But ya know, I had 205/40/17 last year and never had problems. In fact I'd hit a few really nasty potholes (near the airport for example) with those on and both sets of 17's came out just fine, not a scratch or bend or anything. IMO 40 series is fine for most places in the urban/suburban southern ontario region.

i think you'll be ok with the 18's just be careful....
I have always been on a 40 series tire with my 17's and its not that big of a problem. I dont think anyone has mentioned this yet but I think the quality of the rim will have alot to do with weather the rim bends or not.
I think if you go with 18's just make sure its a good quality brand b/c there is less room for weakness. I have Enkei by the way.

his rims look like 18s cause they have this sexy outer lip that curves out instead of under...huge trick he taught me for anyone who wants 17s but wants them to look bigger
