damn speed trap-i got ticketed

hey guys
well i just got a speeding ticket on bayview avenue just north of major mackenzie, JUST a bit north of bayview high school. they set up a speed trap and i got zapped...81 in 60 zone. but this is what happened

theres a jackass behind me whos tailing me, trying to cut off the guy beside him. the guy beside him is in my blindspot. so i speed up so this guy can get off my ***. i didnt want him trying to cut that guy off too close and nicking my car
next thing i know, 3 cops are on the street, blocking it, flagging me in. so i pull over, have my info ready, but no one comes to my car. so i get out and bring them my info. so one of them says "would you like to sit in your car while i do the formalities?" so im like aight. he was a nice cop. so i sit down, he asks abt my driving record, which is clean. then asks for the reason i was speeding along... so i give the aforementioned explanation and he drops it to 70 in a 60 zone, so no points, $40 ticket, which made me happy.

he also said that i can go around the corner to pay the ticket and while im there, plead guilty with the same explanation and they may drop the ticket altogether. cuz either way i hafta go there to pay it so i may do that. worst case scenario is i pay the 40 bucks, cant get worse than that. so while im there i figure maybe ill tell them my story, worst they can do is the justice of peace will say "no, pay it."

Also, i asked why they didnt get the guy behind me ... turns out he was too close to me for them to get him, so they got me, and missed him. talk about a load of with some back luck

coulda been worse, but coulda been better...what a day

well, lucky for you they dropped it down...which is really nice of them...
Also, watch out for the speed trap about 1km north of BSS (the same high school).
it's a 40 (school) zone... I've seen cops there 2 of the last 5 weekends.
beware!

yeah man that zone is deadly. thanks for the headsup bro, respect. i know where that is, from a lil south of elgin mills to just past the plaza and the elementary school both on the same side of the road. thanks for the headsup, ill be careful when i head down there this weekend.

but the thing is, most the traffic around me today was doing between 75 and 80. i just got bad luck with the radar, but good luck with a nice cop. thankfully my mom was happy that i calmly talked my way out of the points as opposed to keeping quiet and taking the 21 over. i remember when my brother got his first ticket, it was for 85 in a 50 zone so much more over than my infraction today, and he got in **** for it.

Im just happy my insurance wont go up

I'd try to get the whole ticket wipped clean. Some insurance companies don't go by demerit points.... they go by a ticket. When I got a speeding ticket 5 yrs ago, 65kph in a 50kph... i got a $40 ticket (no demerit points) and my insurace went up because of the actual Ticket and not the demerit points.

Sorry to hear that Sig, that speed trap is killing everyone... I pass by that place all the time ... it's darn hard to keep driving 40 on Bayview ... they should move the freaking school. btw where do you live ? I saw your other post about someone broke into your mom's car ? I live around that area so I wanna get more info about it. Thanks

and like r1sytle said... DEPENDING on the insurance company.. your rates MAY go up.. but that's only if the insurance company checks up on your record during renewal..

lol oops, my bad babychai

Well how should i find out if my rates will go up? cuz if i call and tell them i got ticketed, they'll likely bump my rates up. should i call acting like i dont have insurance with them and just want some info or what?

ok so is there a better excuse to use? help me out here!
If it helps, i was going with the flow of traffic. I mean, ****ing cops pulled me over but it was in a time when there was traffic. 3PM on bayview & major mack isnt anything close to clear.

Yep same thing happened to me, got trapped , 80 on a 50, and they lowered it down to 60 on a 50. It was $40 ticket no points. I tried to fight it but lost. So i ended up paying the $40.
Come spring time for my insurance renewal, i find out it went up about $400 a year just for that. It was my first speeding ticket ever. Must be my age.

2- gotta pay $40
3- im hoping it ends there...

How old are you? Im 19 so if my insurance company is like yours, im in for $400...F*CK! What Insurance company are you with?
thanks in advance

The situation was, i had to speed up in order for the person besides me to merge into my lane safetly because there was other traffice behind me. It was going on a slight up hill, as soon as i come on top of that hill i see this man on the road that began to wave me down and i find out its a cop.

I tried to use that as my excuse but still plead guilty. They didn't lower it down or anything. Thought I'd would pay the $40 and that would be it. BUT my insurance company AVIVA decides to jack up my rate. I'm 21, and that ticket stays on your record for THREE YEARS

Try to talk to the police before you go into court, maybe he can let you go. I tried that but could not find the police before i got called in. FIGHT it for sure bro, keep that clean record. Hopes this helps.

thanks man, will do. thanks for taking the time to explain. now i see how similar our situations were. i was speeding up to protect myself and let this guy pass... you were speeding up to let him in! both sped up for good reasons!

imma try to get them to throw it out completely. better call my insurance company and see what the policy is or check through my files to see if they have said what warrants a raise in rates.

Thanks again bro

JUST DONT TELL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY.............. but check up on the policy and see if your insurance would go up.

as for the excuse for the judge/prosecutor/crown... there isnt much you can do... just give the same excuse you gave to the officer... and just hope they'll throw it out.

SiG dude, you got lucky man When I got my frist and ONLY ticket 4 years ago *knock on wood* I was driving down a road in Ottawa, it's a bypass road thats a huge straight line which brings you past a little village/hamlet, ANYWAYS I was following traffic doinf about 118 in an 80 and I see this idiot standing in the middle of the road at a crosswalk, only it wasn't an idiot, it was a bike cop pointing RIGHT at me...... I got the ticket droped from 38 over to 20 over, lost 3 points and had to pay a $110 ticket. Cop was an *******. 2 other girls got pulled over at the same spot that SAME morning, one of them he let her go with a warning, and the other.. get this... was going 80 over the limit, and all she got was a fine, and no points..... man was I pissed off!

it stays on your record for three years from the date of CONVICTION DATE... meaning if you decide to fight it.

i thought it was from the offence date... but after all these years... it's actually the conviction date... freaking gay.

Well ill be fighting it!
I got off lucky? I guess yeah, a bit, only cuz i talked my way down and told him i had no other choice. Had i not said anything, he wasnt gonna lower it at all.

Thats BULLSHIT, the girls not getting point... Man i woulda taken it to court and told the judge/justice of peace about the discrimination by the cop.

Yeah im gonna check my policy out and see what happens. Hopefully they dont give a ****!
Thanks for input everyone

count your lucky stars the the trap wasnt further north where its a 40 zone. Just south of elgin mills is a school zone that on top of the fact its a 40, could lose your license on the spot!
