Lightbulb DIY: Trunk lid golf umbrella holder

I've had this for quite some time, and took me alot of time to figure it out.... Took some pics, so I'd thought I'd share my wisdom And best part? NO DRILLING!

What you need:
- (golf) umbrella that's long. Look at photo to get an idea of roughly how long. This DIY worked perfectly for my umbrella.
- Two 1.5" plastic pipe holders (looks U-shaped, used to hold a pipe to the ceiling). Get this from Home Depot.
- hair ties (used by people to tie up a pony tail) (Shoppers Drug Mart / Walmart)

Tools needed:
10mm stocket wrench

1) First off, look at the pic. It's basically a 15 minute DIY, and works out perfect.
2) Open trunk, and slowly unbolt any ONE of the bolts that hold the trunk lid. We will be doing one bolt at a time.
3) Pull off the bolt, and slide on the plastic pipe holder. As you tighten the bolt back on (now with the plastic pipe holder sandwiched in-between, sandwich in one portion of the hair-tie.
Think of it as giving someone a wedgie; you are now sandwiching the hairtie between the metal washer, and the plastic holder.
- So, to be specific, your sandwich of materials will be trunk lid, the trunk lid bar (that lifts the trunk lid), plastic pipe holder, hairtie, bolt.
4) When tightening, make sure that your trunk lid lines up and is exactly as it was before.
5) Do this for all of the other 3 bolts.
6) Once complete, slide one side of the umbrella into the pipe holder, and place it so that the hair ties hold it in place. You can either twist the hair tie into a pretzel shape, and feed the umbrella into it, so that the umbrella 'floats' in the middle of the pipe holder, or you can just hae the hair tie hold on it from one side.

DONE!

Please note that the trunk slams shut a bit harder due to the extra weight. At least mine does. I'm using a Mizuno carbon fibre, 2 layer umbrella. (Cost me an arm and a leg!)

Also, for anyone with a heavy hitting bass system, this thing WILL obviously rattle like crazy.

I'm not sure how this will work with someone with an OEM spoiler... Should work just fine, may work out even better since the OEM spoiler comes with adjusted weights so it doesn't slam shut from the weight of the spoiler...

Telly and Narc have seen it, and thought it was a pretty good idea... It ain't gonna get you points at a car show, but it's a purely functional mod

UPDATE: To any would-be thieves hoping to score a nice Mizuno golf umbrella, don't even think about it. My trunk is always locked, and I will introduce you to Mr. Louis should you decide to sneak a peek at my trunk.

Make sure to do a visual approximation to ensure that the umbrella that you will be hanging is of the correct length.

If it's too short by a few inches, you can try using only 1 bolt per side to hold the pipe hanger, and slant them inwards at an angle... I initially did that...

I felt so bad having my carbon fibre umbrella being sloshed around in the back, fearing it will crack in half. I'm so proud of my setup... One and only

Someone said it looked kinda fruity. I told him to lick my cornhole.

Above all, if you do this, take a pic!

My next mod? Trying to hang my Lousville Slugger (aluminum) baseball bat somewhere nicely in the trunk. The trunk lid is already too heavy as it is now...

I tried using double sided tape and some L brackets and mounting it just above the umbrella, but the trunk slammed so damn hard, it could break a neck!
