Cadillac STS

What do you guys think of Cadillac STS?

I've been searching for my next vehicle, and most likely, I'll buy used because you can find better deals, and I put a lot of mileage on my cars. I've been primarly targeting cars that have extremely poor resale value, so I would get the best bang for my buck.

Acura CL Type-S has been on the top of my list, but I keep hearing about tranny problems. In fact, in their fourms, there's a dedicated section just for tranny issues. Not cool at all. For a 2001 model, general price going is around mid to high 20K.

Looked into Volvos... but I'm not sure how they are over all in the long run. I know parts will be a bitch to replace too. Typically European. But since they are turbo.......... hmmmm....

But Cadillac STS caught my eye today! Typical norm price is mid 20K's for a 2001 model. One particular one, I saw for 25K... 2001 model, with only 20,000km on it. Fully loaded!! 32V V8 Northstar engine... Bose stereo... leather.. *** warmer.. dual climate.. blah blah blah. Basically loaded to the tee.

It's practically brand new, and it's only price of a new Civic SiR.

What do you guys think?

I think you'd be happier with the SIR, I mean you'll spend $100 to fill up the Caddy's tank and you'll have to do it twice a month. The civic you can just pop $30 and you're good to go for 600kms. Also, I am sure that the SIR would be a little bit more fun to drive

caddy are nice but gas station ownz you cuz the weight of the car and engine power

the CL have tranny and also ignition problem from what i read on acura forum

volvo...even my dad think it is oldies car and parts would be bitch as u said and not too many shops do volvo so u are force to go back to teh dealer and get rape

for german car i would only consider vw and audi cuz i like them and if u open the auto trader, i notice the high mileage and i mean high mileage A4 (99 with 150,000 to 200,000 km) are going for $15900
i think the high mileage A4 1.8T are best bang for the buck...but when u get a high mileage audi u gotta do some work to it to be safe since u will also put a lot of mileage on the car...if u need dub or audi help let me know...my friends are all vw and audi geek and know a lot and alwyas work on them in their garage

back to the topic...i saw a 2002 new age impreza 2.5TS wagon on trader.ca going for $17900 with 40,000km. i like it cuz i can't afford the real wrx

if u want real bargain (NEW CAR) then hands down for cavalier and sunflower cuz they are like $12000 brand new + taxes

i cant think of anymore but if i do i will post here

Cadillac STS is uncomfortable car to drive, its totally geared for older people, when I drove it, you can't put your set back to be comfortable because they can't reach the gas peddle, and the steering wheel is in an odd position so you have to sit upright.... dunno STS has power and luxury, but I dind't like it, but it was fun to drive for a while.

Cadallics are old man's cars... unless you're 60.. you won't look cool driving in a Cadallic.

Its a nice car. Cadillac is a nice line altogether . my g/f is trading in her 2002 Trailblazer for an Escalade .... so I can't say anything bad about the brand, the CTS is a nice car as well

Thanks for all your inputs! All very good points...

But unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever buy a brand new SiR. If I were, I'd rather pick up a Golf 1.8T or a Matrix XRS........ but even those two are not on my list.

The reason I want to get a luxo brand car is the fact that they seem to have a lot of goodies that new econo cars just don't have. Attention to detail is there (even on a Caddy, believe it or not).

As far as gas consumption goes... I'm actually impressed with GMs and new V8s in general, especially on the highway (majority of my driving). Even my dad's Lexus takes only about $12 of premium gas to goto Toronto and a return trip back to Hamilton. That's with 300HP pushing a 3600lb car. My brother's Cavalier (2.2L) is just as good on gas on the highway as my Civic, if not better (it lops along 100km/h at around 1500RPM).

One thing I can't argue with you guys is the image of the Caddy (old man's car) and suspension... I know it'll be plushy as hell, but handling will be worse than my minivan :P We'll see.. I'm going to go test drive one eventually and see.

Yeah if your young spirited (which is a dumb term i'm using i dunno why) then you won't like the feel of the Caddy, it was fun driving my friends one for a while blasting "Cadilac Grils, Cadilac Spills...." and like staring down moded civics, but it was so uncomfortable as far as the seating position.
