I have a coupe so its a little different, but I have a real good friend who just got an EX sedan and he loves his. The Toyota is nicely equiped, but for my money I trust Honda engines and Honda design. I got into Honda bikes a few years ago while I was working at a dealership and after working on all the other brands, I can say with confidance that Honda does build the best designed and thought out vehicles in the world. Besides, with the Civic you can always get RSX parts to swap into it.

Yeah, i agree what most people have said so far. You just gotta ask yourself what you want from the car. If you want to do any kind car mods, i would go with the civic. Between the corolla and the civic sedan in the looks department, i like the corolla more with the OEM body kit, but if you add the civic coupe in that comparison i think the coupe wins out. I never drove a corolla, but i drove a 95' camry for 3yrs. The camry had almost no road noise and the engine was quiet to the point where you'd have to double check to see that your engine was on. I love my civic coupe, better mileage, more sporty look but my only gripe would be the road noise. Sometimes people can't hear me on my cell phone when i drive on the freeway. I know comparing a camry isn't a fair comparison, but thats been my only toyota experience. I agree that the honda's tend to have better handling though. Test drive both cars and just see which one you like better. You can't go wrong with either one.
The Corolla has little aftermarket support, the Civic you have a fair amount of mods if thats your thing... The Civic handles way sportier then the Corolla, A base Civic comes with alot more then you will find in a Corolla, with Toyotas everything is practically an option. ok.. thats my 2 cents

The corolla looks pretty good to me with a factory body kit. Also has a bit more power and quieter. It all depends on what you want. You have to test drive them. Get a civic if you're looking into modifying it at all. That's why I got mine.
Ok, if your using the car mainly for commuting, go with the Corolla. The manual trans gets 40 mpg Highway, compaired to civics 33 mpg. The mpg is 32 city on the Corolla, which is close to the Civics highway milage, yet the Toyota has the bigger motor. Also the Toyota has a 5yr/60k powertrain warranty compaired to 3/36 for Honda. The bumper to bumper is the same on both 3/36. The corolla comes with Automatic trans standard, the manual trans is a deduction option, its about 800 less around here. Ive compaired both and everyone is right about the aftermarket stuff for civics, there is sooo much more for the Hondas, but Get the "S" and no need for ground fxs, rims, indiglos blah blah blah , its all standard on the "S". The civics have become the new "Me too" car like the mustang in the 80s-90s. The corolla is catching up quicky though. Styling is personal opinion. The CAMRY is for old ladies, the Corolla is for the younger crowd. People opinions about these two cars are like a$$holes, everyone has one. Test drive the cars, see which one you fit in better, leg room, hip room headroom, ect.......if your uncomfortable in the corolla and you feel better in the Civic go for the civic, there really isnt much diffference, its like Ford and chevy debate, except that those are both equally crappy (kidding). Go with what you will be happy with, not what you think people want you to have. They arent driving/paying for the car, YOU ARE. If you get the corolla, let me know how you like it as far as fit and finish, quality. I like the car but would like to hear about the experiences people have had with the car.
good luck

My civic only gets 30mpg all highway! So the corolla would get better mileage. Just take all the factors into consideration before buying.

what excatly makes it so fun to drive a civic again ??
hmmm, interesting. Every Civic (pre 03) i know only gets like 30-32 mpg highway (real world driving), even my 97 hatch only got 35mpg and that was strictly highway milage (16 miles each way). the best milage i ever got was drafting a tractor trailer at 80 mph in my 91 hatch and got 55 mpg on a 160 mile trip. Did hondas recently get higher mpg rating? This is one of the reasons i was looking at the Corolla was the idea of 30 mpg on highway with the Civics. Ooops , my mistake i guess about the mpg. Ignorance is bliss

I had the same choice to make when I bought my car. I looked through every single mag and review I could find and the consensus was that the civic was the best in it's class but the Corolla was right there. They all basically said that they liked the civic a bit more, but you couldn't go wrong with a Corolla. For me it came down to looks(which the civic is an easy winner) and price. I was able to negotiate a much better price for the civic, depending on what dealer you go to you may have a different experience.
true true, if you get the car at the right time, you can negotiate them down to tissue (dealers actual cost). Most people dont know that the car manufactures give them about 3 months INTEREST FREE to sell the car, after that the dealer is paying for the "Footprint". Footprint is the area the car takes up and is costing the dealership money, they could have sold that car and put another one there interest free for 3 more months, but since the car is still there they are lossing money on it and want it sold ASAP. This is why cars are easier to haggle a few months after the new model comes out and even more so when a new body style comes out. If its a larger dealership, you can see they have alot of inventory and high turn around for stock, also a way to haggle them down. Toyota has a **** load of Corolllas here in northern NJ, you can get a "S" loaded with manual trans for under 15k +tax,title,reg.....a CE about 12.5k with some options (ABS). Why isnt ABS standard???????? its a freaking 150 option...probably save that in the insurance in a few years....

SO I went to Toyota to buy a Corolla, they didnt even want to show me anything unless i left a 500.00 deposit. Unreal, looked at him and said "i guess car sales are good" and turned away and as i was about to leave , he said, "oh wait, heres a CE" after i just told him i wanted a "S" or "LE". I'm 30 years old and own my house, i'm not a punk as kid "window" shopping. So anyway, i left right then and BOUGHT a 2003 Lancer OZ Rally for $13,425 brand new. I couldn't get a VP Civic or CE Corolla for that. Figure i got ground effects, spoiler, fully loaded except sunroof and automatic (didnt want the automatic) Yes my wife can drive a manual trans. So far i love the car, even though the wife drives it everyday. 7/100k powertrain warranty and i got the extended bumper to bumper to 7/100k for an additional $380.00. Over all, i'd like to have bought a Civic Sedan for their KNOWN reliablity, but to get the same thing, i'd have to had to get a LX (no abs and no sunroof is fair to equal to my Lancer) and all addons like factory ground effects and 15" alloys, rear deck spoiler, ect- it would be over $17,553 (both prices before desitination charges). I got a sweet deal on the Lancer. I got the 03 because i liked the nose better then the 04 and dont care for the 04 Civic nose, like the 01-03 better IMO. Well, one day i'll get another civic, Maybe i'll buy Hawk's K20 swapped 02 when he loses his license (lets hope not!!!) for speeding- Right Adam???? well, i know this started as a Civic Corrolla debate, but its all up to what you can afford and what you like. The best part of these forums is that you can talk to people that own a certain car and if they liked it or not, but then there can be alittle bit of favoritism in these forums as well. I've owned 5 Civic, from Accords, Civics to a Del Sol, and i loved everyone of them. My first accord had 598k miles, yes 598 THOUSAND miles on it. I just got sick of all the ricers and people wanting to race. ITS A CIVIC!!! any way im rammbling and bored at work good luck to all with what they decide to buy.
yup, i was the 10th owner, 1986 Honda Accord LX sedan. It would have hit 600k if it didnt get driven over by a garbage truck (parked). It smoked for about 5 minutes even at idle before i could drive it. Had to let it warm up before i drove it otherwise it was UGLY. Once it warmed up it didnt smoke AT ALL. Ran that motor up to redline on every shift, what did i care? i paid 100.00 for it and put a clutch in it, thats IT!!!. Good point, everything worked on it and i didnt have any misquito problems in the summer (smoke worked great). HONDA RELIABILITY, cant beat it

By the way, Mazda 3 should also be considered when shopping for a civic/corolla.

598k miles?!?!?!?!
