Am i the only one who finds this a little fishy.
I too drive an auto EX and im still wondering how you got it to 7500 RPM
ok will everyone please locate 7500 RPM on the tach pictured above, will you also notice that the redline STARTS at about 6750 RPM.
To answer the main posters question, going TO the redline is ok, your redline is a point your not supposed to cross, going past the redline is just plain stupid and is a great way to destroy a perfectly good engine
think of it this way
0 to 6750 RPM = Happy engine <-- happy because its doing what it was built to do
6751 and beyond = Sad engine <-- sad because its about to start spewing chunks of piston everywhere

Imo, the fuel cutoff is there to prevent you from doing any major damage. If it was that bad, the cutoff would arise sooner. It's just common sense.
Also, obviously, the harder you run the engine, the faster it will wear out/loose compression. It's just common sense. The same way that downshifting to slow the car down puts more wear on the engine and clutch than simply using your brakes.
However, the engine was meant to redline and one should never have a problem with doing so on occasion. A little spirited driving once or twice a week never hurt anybody...

After further testing i am now raising the :zbsflag:
Today i tried his little trick seeing if putting it in 2 will let you go past the redline, and it does let you go past it, well thats is until you reach 7000 RPM when your hitting the fuel cutoff. So his story about getting up to 7500 is complete BS.

Anyhoo, I pretty much agree with everyone as mostly everyone pretty much said the same thing over and over. This goes for engine maintenance, too. But only one person disagrees that you can cause premature wear shooting the tach needle to the redline constant enough.
I just wanted to say... 7,500 RPMs? I drive a 5-speed and it won't go passed 7,000 RPMs in idle or in gear. On the other hand, if you upgraded your ECU I stand understood.
No, I didn't modify the rev. limiter, it starting to cutoff approaching 7200rpm, but a block or two after the lights theres a pretty decent downhill incline, so it was still accelerating, though I think hitting the rev limiter, but still in 2nd gear.

I've taken my car to 8,200 RPM'S
....but then again I drive a GS-R....sorry that was my sad attemtp to mention that I drive a GS-R....but without further ado, I also call BS (I rarely ever call BS on anyone's thread) on the 7500 Redline, the only way he could have done this, was misshifiting which, I don't think you can do in an Auto....to the topic starter: can you please enlighten us if the 7500 is true, what you did to change the fuel cutoff??, how did you misshift?....I'm thinking, you may have saw 7500 but it was actually only at 6500, maybe a typo???

well, I don't know how a engine that's going to blow up sounds like, but that's definitely not the feeling that I get when I rev that high....maybe something was wrong with your friend's car???? Have you been in more then one GS-R???
It was a first gen Rx-7, I gotta keep saying this, N/A ones only had 140hp and weigh more than a Civic.
Also, I'm not bragging about hitting 7500rpm, I was just kinda worried about it.

Nah, trust me his motor is all good.
All he has on it is an intake and header though. Thread
