So which car should I get?
So which car should I get?
My last civic was a 2001 LX Coupe, if you remember from another post I did...
I test drove a 2002 Civic Si yesterday. It drives sweet but I don't like the looks. So basically it's down to '01-'02 Civic EX or LX, or the '03 DX. I guess the EX has more mods than the others... If I can sell the Vette instead of trading it in, I think I might go for the EX or the Hyundai Tiburon. Yeah yeah, so it's Hyundai. I've read nothing but good things in Road & Track, Consumer Reports, etc... I'd like to get the right car for the mods, now that I have knowledge of the mods this time around. As soon as I rebuild my financial life after shuffling cars, I want to get the internals done first...
Any good ideas will be taken into consideration.

So i'm guessing you have to pay off a loan for the Vette after you sell it, which is why you are thinking in the Civic class.
I dont know much about the new Tiburon's but I havent heard anything bad. But out of your choices I'd go with the 02 EX.
It just feels a lot more satisfying to me to be able to make a 16+ second car run with the big boys that bought their car running 12s stock; which is why I suggest the 02 EX. Just my opinion though. Your money so do what you please

. If I sell the Vette myself, I have hopes of being close, if not completely, to the value of the loan. If I trade it in, I'll be upside down by around $2,500. I'm hoping the Vette will sell quickly, especially in this beautiful weather... It's 75 degrees here

Plus the V6 gas mileage sucks, it's about the same as the Vette.

I thought I read somewhere that the 4 cylinder will be offered with the 6-speed from the V6 soon. Plus, Apexi will be selling a tubo kit for the 4 cylinder soon, if not right now. I'd say go with the Tiburon. It'd be alittle different from all the Hondas out there.
I have been leaning towards the Tiburon for awhile now, namely because it's unique, not a lot of people know about it. I'm trying to ignore the "it's a hyundai" people, because last time people said that, I listened, and next thing you know I'm reading Consumer Reports and hearing all kinds of praises for Hyundai's turnaround. I just hope and pray that the Vette sells quickly so I can get my crap together. My life is basically a cycle of building it up and tearing it down. Damn that is old...

Personally, I don't like the idea of buying a BRAND-New car to modify. If you want to buy a car that is going to used for mods, why not buy something used? I mean, if you are going to buy a civic ex and put several thousand dollars into it, why not just buy a used rsx-s and be done with it?
I'd spend the money and get a better car rather than buy a cheaper car and put money into it.
Out of your choices, I would go with the ex civic. It's a honda so I won't list my reasoning.
The tirburon, I don't see many of them and the manufacturer is definately a turn-off as you know. Plus, I don't know where you are getting all this praise from CR. The online site shows some subjective comments, but doesn't rate the RELIABILITY as model is too new or soemthing.
However, if reliability is not your top priority, go for it. It sounds like you really want the tib. Are you looking to be talked out of it? Just remember you are going to have to justify your choice to everyone when asked what you drive. The car will be hard to sell. The resell will be very low. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, just making some comments I think you ought to keep in mind.
Ultimately, I would buy a more expensive car and not mod it. Civic ex otherwise.

I would get the Tiburon. If I had the choice to make again, I wouldnt of bought my civic....I would of gotten an integra, a 2000 used si, or the 2.5 rs subaru....
The Accord is out of my range, unless I get the lowest class of either 2 or 4 door. The DX looks good to me...
I don't mind putting in mods in an older car. Every car was new at one point. I'll just be sure to put the original stuff back on when I sell it. Believe me, it was a pain trying sell my Honda with the aftermarket stuff on it.
I am thinking of getting my old truck I had in high school, which has been in the family for over 20 years. It's a Ford F100 with only 60k miles on it. It's been restored off and on over the years, it looks awesome... Anyway, if I drive that for awhile, my car payments will be $0 and my insurance will be a joke, which allows me to save a sizable amount of money to either mod the hell out of whatever car I get, or use as a hefty down payment on a new car, like say, an RSX. My other cheap choice is my dad's Grand Prix GT, which was his company car. He's getting a new one, and the company allows families to buy it back dirt cheap. That means I gotta shuffle through another car in the future though, but with a lot less hassle...

So you will get a used 01 or 02 civic? Why not get a used SI or older gen civic EX? If you get something like 2000 SI/2000EX there are a lot more options on moddin (turbo, swap, supercharge, NA anything you named and cheap) The 7gen civic will be hard and expensive to mod for quite a while. From the list I will pick the 2002 EX(DON'T get the 2001 one b/c it cursed with first year problem). Just in case you change your mind, EX will be easier to sell and worth more.

Never had the first year problem with '01 Civic. Another regret I have trading it in...
My brother has a '97 Civic LX, he has a lot of mods... I could live with that, but it sounds like I'm going backwards since I've been spoiled by my '01...
I say they tried to make the new tiberon look kinda like a supra dont you think? Well at least the headlights. There nicer than the older ones, but Id take a 02 civic EX anyday over a tiberon. (Thats the one I have)
