Just had the privilege of sampling a Porsche Cayenne (S and Turbo versions). Wow does that thing move. Moreover, man does that truck/SUV/wagon/car/whatever handle! It handles on rails considering its weight, height.
Then had the privilege of riding in the 911 Turbo... I am in awe.
How does one go back to driving a lesser car?
Man, have my life goals just shifted!

Rep Power: 0 I was tagging along my friend who has a 968 and 911, it was an invite event for releasing the Cayenne in Canada.
The Cayenne is a beast, 4.5L V8. We took on ramps at insane speeds and you always felt like it was too tall of a vehicle to be going this fast on the bends. We even drifted briefly while all four wheels screeched. It's amazing what they did on the chassis. To top it off, it's claimed to have better off-road capabilities than the X5, M-class, and other wannabe SUVs.
There were some production issues still though, because the sales manager was saying that many of them have problems since they're the first production run. The vehicles we drove also had a bit of creaking... haha, reminded me of the Civic!

Rep Power: 0 I saw one at the Porsche section of a car show and they had all of them locked. I guess "normal" Dayton Ohio people weren't good enough to sit in a Porsche. Mercedes had their $90,000 S class unlocked though. Snobby Porsche bastards.

Rep Power: 373 I saw it at the local dealer. I dont like the look of it....I think it looks really strange....The nose of a 996 on a 4wd chassis just doesnt look right to me.

Rep Power: 0 I dunno about you guys but I was kind of upset when Porsche released that Cayenne....It seems like they're steering away from what they really are, which is a company that devotes themselves to exotic race cars and street cars...it seemed to me that they sold out...I mean I guess you could say the same thing about the Boxster...I've heard a lot of people say that the last true Porsches were the ones that were built before the Boxster came out....then Porsche just got soft (i dunno about that..GT2, need i say more)....If i was a Porsche owner and hard-core enthusiast (and i'm not) i might feel a bit betrayed....what do you guys think?
Edit: Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's an amazing machine to drive! This is just what I felt about it and I was wondering what you guys though...agree or disagree

Rep Power: 297 I agree with SatinSilver2k1...Whats next a Ferrari SUV? Porsche is a sports-car company and even though the Cayenne has a fast engine and handles well, its an SUV. Im sure its an incredible machine, but thats not what Porsche is. Im just a little dissapointed in them for giving in to the SUV trend.

Rep Power: 357 I dont agree with you guys at all.
They still are into speed / racing -- They just applied their knowledge and know-how to an SUV.
I mean, the Cayenne is an absolute beast. The most powerful production class SUV on the market, how is that losing what Porsche really stands for?

I agree, if they're going to do it they might as well do it in true Porsche fashion...But it still is giving into the SUV trend like 2k2EXCOUPE said...I just thought Porsche would be somewhat above that and stick to their tradition instead of just trying to give into the latest trend...I used to feel like they were the "trendsetters" now i'm not so sure...It seems like they sold out to me..

Rep Power: 297 SOLD OUT, perfect phrase I was looking for. And once again, I agree with SatinSilver2k1. I'm not saying that I dont think its a bad-*** SUV, but Porsche and SUV arent two words I want to hear together. Its like a JEEP and Sports Car...
