F1 - Melbourne
who's watching the qualifying?Ferrari front row, no surprises there, but Maclaren near the back? a Toyota at the front? Minardi not even bothering to qualify? [I guess FIA abolished the 107% rule?]...
I can't wait to see the pile up tomorrow.. faster cars trying to overtake slower cars in front that started with less fuel ^^

Qualifying's freaking boring now with only one lap that counts. What is FIA thinking??? One chance is so unprofessional. We all know what FIA is trying to do, but shortening the qualifying round can't possibly help ratings.
Yes, shaking up the starting grid is a good idea, but there's gotta be a better way. And with only one lap, Montoya better start showing some wins, or he'll have nothing to show for at the end of the season.
On a related note, why is Honda's engine still so unreliable? What were they doing over the off-season? Aren't they supposed to be working out the kinks? Poor Jacques.
Ferrari looks good and it doesn't bold well for the others, considering they'll be unveiling yet another (most likely better) car later this year. Fortunately, MacLaren's supposed to be doing the same.

Minardi 'failed to qualify' but will still race because the Concorde Agreement states that there must be a minimum of 20 cars on the grid. Because Prost and Arrows both folded at the end of last season, that means that all 20 cars from all 10 teams are guaranteed to start the race no matter what. And it also gives the Big 3 (Ferrari, Williams, McLaren) an incentive to agree to new F1 cost-cutting measures that will bring the cost of team ownership down for the little guys (Minardi, Jordan, Sauber, Renault). Because if Minardi or Jordan goes bankrupt and doesn't finish the season, then the Concorde Agreement states that the remaining teams must now field 3 cars (instead of 2) to make up the difference. And that's going to mean mucho dinero for everybody involved.
Motorsports has little to do with the 7th gen civic and is a topic best left for the OT forum. I've already started a thread in the OT forum about the F1 Australian Grand Prix.
I've also got tapes of the opening races for the IRL (err uh... IndyCar Racing Series is what they officially call it) and CART (err uh... Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford is the official name now). I've watched both of the races but haven't had time to critique them and post my thoughts and notes. Hopefully I'll get around to it within a week or so.
