We have a 13.2 gallon tank, when my fuel light comes on, I have used 10 gallons, so that means I have about 3.2 left, you don't want to run it too much past the fuel light though, cause it's not worth risking it, and having your car run out of gas in the middle of the ghetto or something. I typically only go about 30-40 miles MAX after my light comes on, the most i've put in my car is 11.7 gallons, so I was pretty low.

I used to drive Pontiacs all the time and the dealership I frequented always warned me not to let the tank go much below 1/4 because when you make turns the fuel sloshes around in the tank and your pump ends up sucking air sometimes. They said that can sometimes cause even new fuel pumps to lock up.
I know those cars had the fuel pump sitting inside the tank. Do our Civics have the feul pump in the tank as well? If so, I would assume they could suffer from the same fate...
and btw, I generally get 290 - 320 miles per tank before my light comes on. (depending on how hard I've been beating on the poor thing)

i drove like 30 miles after red light was on, it's been to cold lately, so i dont like filling up i usually get like 280-320miles a tank also, depending on how hard i push it
I've run down mine past the red line so it's touching the E before. I still had about a half gallon in the tank, but I parked uphill on an incline and the gas couldn't get the car started.
So better fill it up before that to be safe.
As for best tank...I put 460 on one tank and still had a gallon when I filled up.

My gas light goes on at 300 miles and I've gotten to 415 miles before I filled up. The car took 12.5 gallons out of the 13.5 it could hold.

That is really good info because I never knew how much I had left when that light went on. I was always scared that my car was gonna stop right there. LOL. Anywayz, about many miles can you get with 3.2 gallons?
I fill up at a little under a quarter tank left. Thats just me because I never know what will happen and where I will be when that damn light comes on. I don't want to know how far I can get on an empty tank. Beacuse what happens if you didn't notice it until it has benn on few a little while and you think it just came on. So because you think you know how far you can get when it comes on you try and go that far without realizing have far you have already gone before. Just fill up before the light comes on and save your self the embarassment.

Basically for any car manufatuerer to sell their car in the united states they have to meet the dot codes, and the gas light code for dot is that you have to be able to drive atleast 50 miles after your light comes on. So when our civics light comes on there is approx 2-3 gallons of gas left for you.

13.2 gallon tank
2.2 gallons left when the gas light comes on
that is a fact, no doubt in my mind.
as far as the needle ive had it in the middle of the E. when i got gas it took 13.1 gallons. that's the farthest ive taken it.
but i got 33 miles on .60 gallons towards the end of that tank. talk about fuel economy.
i have a lx btw.

I've easily gone 60 or 70 miles after the fuel light comes on. I never fill it up right away, I make sure and drive around another 50 miles at least usually before filling it up again. Today was the most expensive fill-up ever though - $26 to fill the tank, though I did spend $2.29 on a STP gas treatment. I usually clean the injectors every 3 or 4 fill-ups.
And those mileage numbers are WEAK! I've gotten over 500 miles on a single tank before. No BS ...
Anyways good to know about the fuel light, I've always been curious as to the actual numbers, as opposed to my guesstimation
