GM is crazy!

Hey, what do you guys think about Cadillac's (GM's) Sixteen? I think it's 16 for 16 cylinders and it supposedly has 1000HP!
Tom Stevens from GM Powertrains introduced the XV16 engine. This 16-cylinder engine displaces 13.6 liters and produces an amazing 1000 horsepower. At only 695 pounds, the aluminum-intensive engine weighs less than the largest V8s powering GM’s trucks.
sounds crazy!

What is one BIG engine. But a waste of money IMO. Just because GM created an engine like that doesn't mean the governments going to change the speed limit.

I think that under regular driving conditions the car won't wast more gas than an V8. I think that it only operates eight cylinders under regular driving conditions then if you really "step-on-it" it will use all 16. I don't quite remmember where I was reading this but it was posted up before.

Look at the headers... it's an 8-1 header... there are 2 outs. It may go duals all the way back, but will probably go through a Y pipe then into a split again into duals (possibly with quad tips)), but there won't be 4 outlets from a V engine. There would be a possibility of an 8-2-1 header, but it doesn't look like that's what they did.

I still think this is a sweet car! With Displacement-on-Demand the car can actually run on as little as 4 cylinders depending on how you're driving it. Pretty cool.

I saw the review on that car a couple weeks ago.
GM will not make any more of the 16. It is the only one.

Actually its not two V8's. Car and Driver has a section on this engine this month and that question was specifically brought it up. It is a totally new engine: V16 Baby

Actually, GM was quoted as saying that it got 20 mpg in combined driving, due to the DOD the engine uses, that allows it to operate on only 4 cylinders while cruising on the highway.
