Johnso26 rips mitsubishi a new one (USDM lancer evo related)
taken from clubsi because this is funny as hell:
OK, this information may have been brought up in another thread, common knowledge, or beaten out the Houston police chief.....I don't give a f**k! I just opened my shiny new C&D with the EVO on the cover and flipped right to the hard data. BOOM! $30K-plus-markup-star-of-the-new-greatest-movie-of-all-ricedom scorches the 1/4 to glory at 14.2@98. BWHAHAHAHAHA!11!!1 Holy stock WRX Batman!!!!1!11 I'm sure I am going to get all kinds of "Brembo brakes".......blah, blah, blah......"the numbers don't reflect the sum of its parts"........blah, blah, blah....."Yeah, but it owns the twisties"...... blah blah blah
The point is, you buy this altezza'd, wing'd econobox and get owned by a WRX with some basic mods that has been out for years. Handles better? Sure! But what defines most cars on the road? What does everyone want to know about a new car? "WHATS IT RUN?????!!!" It runs ~14.2@98 and THAT is weaknuts in such a competitive automotive world these days.
I hope STi vs. EVO isn't being debated anywhere.
HEY MITSU!!!!!!!!!!111 END YOURSELF!!1! 11
hahahahahaha! 14.2 = weaksauce.

Mistubishi said it would do 13.8@102.... intersting.
But keep in mind, car and driver isn't exactly the "best" at getting max straightline performance out of cars. In fact, they can be down right morons.

Nothing wrong with C&D. But Motor Trend will do better time. These guys compete.
For example, I remember when Lexus GS400 first came out, they said it would do 5.8s to 0-60mph. Now they say the new Mercedes E500 is significantly quicker than Lexus GS400, yet it does only 5.9s. Same guys also say the Lexus GS430 only does 6.5s.
Fact about magazines--editors and testers have egos. They want to be "better drivers" than their competions. So they lie about times. So you can't go by it. Last time I checked, an Acura TL Type-S (260HP) did only 16.1s for 1/4mile. HAHAHA. Yeah right. On their first test, it did high 14's. Like I said--progressively slower.
Only real thing you can trust is side by side comparison tests--if one car is quicker than other, then you know that much is true. But you can't go by tests from months a part, done with different drivers. Way too many variables.

C&D and R&T don't always have the best times on things. And at what elevation were these tests held and at what temperature?? Those factors made a big defference as does the driver.
I've seen civic EX coupe tests range from 17.1-16.5 stock. There's 2 guys in montreal who ran a 16.04 and a 15.97 this october.. Cold days, low elevation.

Okay, according to what i researched, the Lancer Evo is the better deal here. How do I figure? Well going to the Manufactures Global sites, I found the hp ratings for the Evo and the STi. Here is what I found....
The 2002 STi makes 195kW(265ps)/6,000rpm which is 261.3941018766756 HP and 343(35.0)/4,000 or 252.9968 pound-feet torque. From (Subaru Global Website)
The 2000 Evo makes 206kW(280ps)/6500rpm which is 276.1394101876676 HP and 383N-m(39.0kg-m)/3500rpm or 282 pound-feet torque. (From Lancer Evolution VII)
So unless Mitsu is lying the Lancer Evo is more powerful. Now, these power figures are for the Non Amereican market, you know that when they come over here they will be less. Mitsu says the Evo VIII will make 271hp and 273 pound-feet torque.
Now I've heard that the STi is supposed to get a new 2.5 liter engine making 300hp. It's also supposed to cost $32,000. $2,000 seems like a lot of $$$ to pay for only 30 hp more. Plus you don't get the benefit of the front mount intercooler. In my opinion, the lancer seems like a better deal. Maybe you would like to pay 2000 more but I wouldn't.
