And the Sport Compact Car of the year is......
I don't know what the hell you saw on speedvision, but I know a thing or two about the SRT-4.
Is a picture of the SRT interior with a power window switch enough to convince you? Right below this guy's hand. You'll notice that this particular car is optioned with the side airbags, and thus, doesn't have the viper seats, but stock neon R/T seats.

Having *driven* the car ( a red one at neon 2002 without the side airbags); and as an avid autocrosser I think it's safe for me to say that it handles pretty well, at least as well as an ACR on street tires. As for the road noise, i didn't really notice, although the exhaust was impressive sounding for a stock car (considering it only has a turbo, a cat and a resonator).

Why not? When discussing performance aspects, resale value is often brought up by the stereotypical civic as a redeeming factor for the civic, despite it being heavily outclassed by whatever the competing car is. Same with reliability, we don't live in the 1980s anymore, often a car with crappy reliability nowadays is better than the most reliable cars in the 80s. I've always been "told" by the stereotypical civic owner that my neon should have fallen apart at least a year ago. That obviously isin't the case. Same with "yeah, well my civic looks better" and the list goes on and on. Obviously not EVERYONE that owns a civic is a blind, brand-loyal asshat but there sure do seem like a lot of them.

You've now said the most idiotic and uneducated statement of the millenium. "maybe they wanted useable power band and some torque". Give me a break, and get a clue. The RSX has plenty of steam to beat many sport compacts out there from 1000rpm on up.

I'd love to see a WRX, RSX-S, spec V, cavalier, sunfire, neon, saturn, etc, all go from a 1000rpm roll to say 40mph. I'm willing to bet the RSX will take the majorit of those. I think the WRX would be the toughest challenge..... then again, it doesn't even make full boost in 1st gear. The spec V will not, as I've seen/participated in such a race in person. Line two people up, idling along in 1st.... mash the gas. The RSX-S lead through 45mph the whole way.

As for power up top, I'm glad the power is where it is. That means that when I race, I am always in my power band. I redline, then shift, and stay well within my "top end" power band.
Don't jump on the "no torque, no power down low" band wagon. It will make you sound like a fool to those of us that know better than the sheep that spout that crap.
On the other hand though, cars like the cavalier and sunfire have a very low peak torque and a lot more of it than the RSX, and (in our hypotehtical race here) would more than likely initially jump out ahead of the RSX until the RSX got into VTEC and the j-bodes went into 2nd gear. By 40 the RSX would undoubtedly be ahead though. The neon would also make a good showing for itself in 1st and at the beginning of it's unusually short 2nd gear and would also likely come out ahead of the j-bodies at 40, although i don't think at any point it'd be ahead of the RSX. The SRT-4 we *were* discussing would pull like a train and then blow a headgasket, all while having $200 drop off the resale value.
Personally I like the powerband of engines like the F20/K20, they're very short gearing friendly... but the SRT's powerband has it's merits as well, lol.

They were supposed to do that in the form of the razor, but they canned it AFAIK. I heard a rumor that it might come out naturally aspirated though because it would almost step on the viper's toes, and we can't have that can we? I'll believe that one when i read something official though.

Saturn has a "roadster" coming out.... but it's a joke.
I'll have a review and photo later.

I agree... it would have been nice to see the domestic market come out with a decent roadster, other than the vette. (which is one of the best)

It's a 180hp 2.2 liter supercharged ecotec engine.
But though they call it a roadster... by definition it's not.
Roadsters are RWD, and this beast is FWD.
