You can't go wrong with a Ford Tempo......
...No scratch that ... I mean you should be able to get a '97 Toyota Corolla for under $8000.
That is if you want the most plain jane, run of the mill, unoffensive and reliable sedan there is.

Ford Escorts are cheap, but not to reliable.

A 5th gen civic can be bought for about that amount or a little under, and you know most of them are damn good. 94ish accord for that price too. Make sure to check blue book or NADA book value before buying anything though. I do however have a 94 Dodge Colt for sale for $800, that's ONLY 10% of your total amount of money, the rest is pure savings!!!!!!

Crx for a prject car . But if you're looking for an ordinary ride, go with a sedan, maybe a minivan as well.

I'd say a 96 Integra GS-R. I would say 95, but those GS-Rs I hear burn valves. The only reason why I know this is because my dad is a veteran mechanic for 30+ years and he says he's lately been getting those GS-Rs in his shop with burned valves.

for reliable and cheap, get like a 98-00 geo prizm. truth is that car is a toyota corolla in disguise (like pontiac vibe=toyota matrix) for much less $. shave the emblems and you're cool.
