*PLEASE READ* EX's are EASY to break into....
I tried rolling down the window and sitting in the car and turning the alarm on. After unlocking the doors my alarm still went off. Maybe its a setting that can be changed. are we talking about the KARR alarm?
And you wonder why civics are one of the most highly stolen cars
its incredibly easy to just wedge that window open and flip the door lock switch - thats how the tow truck man did mine when I locked my keys in the car.................you just need to get a better alarm
Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

Angel, also remember that there are more civics out there to be stolen. So if you look at it as a ratio it might not be as high.

Hey, no matter what you have, if they want it, they'll get it, ever see gone in 60 Seconds? Yeah, it may be somewhat exagerated, but it's true, even an alarm, may stop the hacker criminal, but not a professional, anyways as much as i'd hate to have my car stolen, it's INSURED, right? lol

Slick: Yes, because of the automatic arming. It's very annoying to most everyone to hear alarms going off all the time. Hardly anyone even looks anymore when an alarm goes off.
As for the civic being easy to steal, what are you trying to protect. You want a mercedes security system on an econobox?
The civic is stolen so much because the parts are easy to sell and can be turned very easily. There is a connection between the most stolen cars and the fact that there are a butt-load of them sold every year...
It's not that crooks pick the car by how easy it is to steal, it's can they sell it and how quickly...

well, i understand that no one cares when they hear an alarm go off, but lets look at the following scenerio.
its 2:00am, you're at home, sleeping, and your car is in the driveway, it has a stock alarm. a theif comes by and opens your car door because they know the alarm wont sound ( they take a chance and hope you have the stock alarm ). it works, door opens, they're in. since the alarm didn't sound, and you are sleeping, you dont know whats going on. this thief takes his time and steals your head unit, subs, cell phone charger, cd's, and your backback with $300 worth of school books in it. he closes the door to your car, and leaves. in the morning, you get ready to go to work, go to your car ( which doesn't look like its been touched ) and get in. after a second you realize you've been robbed blind in the middle of the night.
if the car alarm did what its suppose to ( sound when the door is opened ) then you would have probably heard it, and would have had a chance to chase the theif/theives away.
i'm just upset that the "security system" for our cars doesn't really do **** as far as security is concerned.

i dunno about u guys, i just got my new car and i got a stock alarm and i can tell u that if u set the alarm, by using the switch on the keychain and then u sit in ur car wit the windows open. THen u unlock the doors with with the switch inside the cars, and then u try to turn the car on, it still goes off. maybe they fixed it. i dunno. i tried it and it went off for me. maybe u should upgrade
id say go to africa and get the mercedes alarms, when they go off or if ur in it, theres things on the side that shoot fire out and inflames the sides of ur car so no one can get in them. i saw it in some article to protect high status people.

I have am EX with a stock alarm and I armed my alarm while sitting in the car and I unlocked the doors with the power locks and my alarm did not go off.
So you are right this sucs. But once I shut the door the alarm went off. I'm not sure if the alarm will go off if the thief keeps the door open. I will test that later. Anyway I'm still not happy
My car doesn't even have an alarm... Just the stupid keyless crap. How much would it cost to upgrade to a decent horn honking alarm? But still keep the same remote and the keyless entry system?
I have the stock alarm, but it wasn't installed by honda and I know the guy who installed it for me had to rig something up....anyway, I tested it by sitting in my car, armed it w/ the doors locked, unlocked the doors w/ the power lock switch & opened the door & the alarm did go off. The only way I could disarm it was by using my remote or by inserting the key in the ignition (as the manual states). I must be lucky.
