But that story was from along time ago...are tires like that still be used on Hondas even after the problem? I wonder if it adversely affects my stereo system's capabilities?

That works if the current is caused by you... But in the instances listed here, they are talking about a current flowing through the metal parts of the car itself, simply grounding through whoever touches it first (unless it is already grounded). So that has nothing to do with the person or the key, it's the car.

There is an easy way to get rid of the shock..... touch your key before you touch the door......
I dunno, I have the originall OEM mats...i would eve think that rubber matts might help the problem.
I can't wait until someone goes to get gas and when they get out the car the car sparks and the whole place goes *poof*

it used to do it to me a lot until i fixed it heres how:
i have a stock stereo so this might not apply to you audio buffs.
anyways i changed the wire that grounds the engine to the car frame (the one under the hood that you can see running from the engine cover to the front of the car on the frame) i changed the wire to a fatty 4 gauge and it stopped shocking me. if it still does it during the hummid summer then i'll try swapping a 4 gauge on the one that goes to the negative battery terminal as well.
hope this works for some of ya!

It definately has to do with tires...my Jeep used to do it ALL the time with Goodyear Wrangler tires (low rolling resistance), and as soon as I switched to BFG A/T's, it went away completely.......it shouldent have any thing to do with michilin tires on our cars...we use OEM Firestones.

Did you happen to replace your battery? I did.
Then again, I don't see how that has anything to do with it?
its quite simple, discharge any static electricity youve built up before entering the car by touching a conductive surface. This will eliminate any static shock you may encounter while exiting the vehicle.

Static depends on the Charges around you and the outside air......Air has a charge.... there are ways to get rid of this....buy a static strip and attatch it to the bottom rear of your car....(looks funny). Or go get a static antenna for the trunk....(looks like a radio antenna). One last remedy....if you cant afford these items......do this. before you step out of your car......open the door....and grab the door by any metal contact.....then while holding the metal step out.....once you step out completely...you can let go and touch it again....ITS GONE.....THE REASON IS YOU HURT FROM THE STATIC BECAUSE IT JUMPS FROM THE CAR TO YOU....BUT IN THIS CASE IT TRANSFERS WITHOUT JUMPING....YOU DONT EVEN FEEL IT....
