Shocking!!!
I know that this has been posted before...but everytime I get out of my car and go to close my door my car shocks the Hell out of me!!! It is actually pretty bad, and I can see the spark usually too! It has gotten to the point where I will always pull my jacket over my fingures if I am wearing one...even when I get out of other peoples cars...talk about shock therapy!!
Anyway, does this happen to anyone else, and more importantly, how do i make it stop!!!?? Please make it stop

Mine does that to me all the time too...Im tall enough where the top corner shocks my nipple sometimes...that f'in hurts...I got in the habit of touching the glass now before I get out and close the door.
The shocking experience acn be attributed to a couple reasons.
1. You have a loose ground somewhere, or too many electronic devices on your car for it to be grounded properly and thus it discharges on you when you exit your car.
2. There could be a cold front on your area and that causes the shocking sensation, I'm not a weather man but it is something to do with the weather.

yea me too, it goes away for like a month and then does it again, its probably dependant on humidity or somthing, anyways i just close the door with the glass and wipe it off every few days to get the smudges off hehe
honda should give us monitary compensation for the physical harm it causes

hmm.... You guys must have seat covers or something, or you probably wear static prone clothes. Leather does not charge or conduct, and the 7th gen fabric seats usually don't cause static, unless Honda's changed materials. Buy and throw in a fabric softener that takes away static while you're drying a load in the dryer. It always keeps the static away for me.
I've had too many incidents where I've gone somewhere with a sock clinging to my pant leg and me not noticing it!

I will chaulk it up to the 1500 watts in my ride, but it is definantly more intense on overcast, glommy mornings.
I am just soooooo sick of it

Two words, static electicity. It's caused by slidding off of your seat when you go to get out of your car. It's like taking your shoes off and scuffing your feet across a rug with socks on then toughing something metal. It's even worse if you have a system, more of an electric field.
Weather and shoes. I don't know the physics of this, but i know it's cold, dry air that is prone to conducting electricity. The air in the winter is colder (duh) but more importantly drier than the summertime humidity. Can you remember getting shocked during the summer months? Also, this creates more intense shocks, which is why you notice them all the time. Shoes help too. If you're wearing sneakers, look out for big ones, but when i'm wearing my dress shoes, i get nada shocks. Remember rubbing your feet on the carpet and your hair sticking up? Same principle.
Yes, it's an Acura EL

This is a regular occurrence for us cold-weather folks. Myself, I just hold on to the edge of the door as I open it (gotta keep it from hittin my dad's car anyway) and don't let go until I shove it closed.
it's due to the dry weather.. and of course depends on ur clothes and also the fabric interior of civic. static is created when ur clothes rub against the seat. I have no problem with my Canadian Acura 1.7EL. It's leather interior. So I odnt have the problem of rubbing my clothes with another fabric.. It's just rubbing of my clothes with leather. Static is not created. Thus I dont get the shocks.
And you can see.. TeLLY's 1.7EL Touring is fabric interior.. thus he gets the shock.
Everytime when I sit on my friends car, I always open and close their doors with my fingers under my jacket..

Does the same damn thing to me too. Damn audio systems and dry days.
I say down with Static Electricity. Needs to be put to death
Your best bet to avoid it is to grab your door and then get out of your car while your holding the door. It will ground you and you wont get that shock. Otherwise, prepare for the hospital from the lethal Civic shock weapon

Did you happen to replace your battery? I did.
Then again, I don't see how that has anything to do with it?

I usually use my elbow to touch the door first (hurt less on the arm) then close it with my hand..but sometimes, I end up getting shocked both on my elbow and then my hand too.

I wonder if this new idea can be implemented into a anti-theft thing. Like have it store the energy and unless you disable the alarm it shocks the first person to try to get into the car so bad that it knocks them out
