The overseas parts thing....
OK... obviously, it's cool here in the states to have JDM parts, or in the case of the new Coupes, Euro parts. Does anyone know if in other places around the world (like Europe or Japan), the opposite happens, where they want USDM parts? OK, some our parts suck, but there's other stuff that we have that they don't (like the different Integra fronts). So are people over there building USDM cars? Or we the only wierd ones who pay lots of money to get parts we don't have?

Actually one of my friends who lives and works in japan now says that APC is the best thing over there right now because it is USDM products. He has me ship him stuff every so often so he can sell it for a killing price. It is amazing the stuff that we call cr@p, they love and the stuff they call cr@p, JDM, we want badly.

Having lived in Japan and owning a S13 Silvia with a sr20det motor and being into the car scene over there, I'd say for the most part, the true car enthusists look at USDM parts for Japanese cars as a joke. They know that no one makes better parts for the JDM cars than they do. However, they look at USDM vehicles as a sign of status. Granted this is only the case if you own a Corvette, Viper, GM/GMC/Ford/Dodge trucks (especially duallies), or a pimpin' USDM suv or conversion van. I have seen however people with Toyota Aristo's (Lexus GS series), Toyota Celsior's (Lexus LS series), Toyota Altezza's (Lexues IS series) looking for USDM/EDM Lexus badges.
They have much less emission standards than we do here in the states, so basically they will build any part to any spec as long as you get better performance. Unlike here in the states where manufacturers have to provide performance keeping in mind CARB and EPO standards that they need to meet. That is why they 1000+hp Skylines and Supras, 800+hp Silvias, RX-7's, etc that are totally street legal. They have to go through vehicle inspections every two years if they own a car that is up to 10 years old and every year if older than that. These inspections are a joke. All they do is look for burning oil, leaking fluids, worn tires, worn brakes, and ensure lights are operational, that's it. Pretty easy to pass.
Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to give you guys a better picture of why they don't our parts for their cars.
