The Jetta, which shares its underpinnings with the New Beetle and Golf, comes with a host of standard luxury and safety features. Handling is fairly nimble, and the ride is comfortable and quiet. The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is responsive but noisy and relatively thirsty. The turbocharged 1.8-liter Four is smoother and stronger, but hesitates off the line when paired with the automatic transmission. The uplevel 2.8-liter V6 is quiet and brawny. An economical turbodiesel TDI is also available. It averaged 32 mpg in our tests but was rather slow with the automatic transmission. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, but the rear seat is quite cramped. A well-finished small wagon is also available. Reliability has dropped below average.

New for 2003: Stability control optional. Sporty GLI trim added.

Predicted Reliability: Much worse than average.

Areas that problems frequently occur for almost all years: Electrical, Power Equipment, Body Hardware, Paint/trim/rust, Fuel

All the above information is from the Consumer Reports Website. Take it for what it is worth.

Get the VR6. The 5 speed tranny is not the greatest. The VR6 comes with the European 6-Speed... Much firmer and more positive of a feel. Plus there's 2 more cylinders and 1 more gear, a better suspension, bigger brakes, and some other stuff.
But it does come with one hell of a warranty...
4/50000 bumper to bumper
12 yr/ Unlimited on rust
and I think 100000 on the power train.
The bad thing is, its smaller than a Civic and it carries a girly/coffee house wienie reputation.
The 1.8T isn't a bad engine, it just runs the power through a less than great transmission. Handles ok, but a bit on the heafty side (like 3300-3400 lbs). No complaints about VW Service (my mom has an 01)

Well I would have asked you but according to a lot of people on this site you don't know much either. And from what I gather you still have yet to show proof of all this "work" you have done to your car.

Reaad up on them. Visit http://www.vwvortex.com/, and ask about them. Do your own homework & research so YOU get a good idea of whether or not its something you want to pick up.

In defense of Joe, I have visited a few other boards outside of this one & from what I can gather, he knows a bit about them.

So, with out my own research involved, it would be better to stick with a Civic then the VW

Ultimately, the civic is going to be more reliable. I like the dubs as well and really considered the golf gti before the civic. I love the interior and like the exteriors ok. Anyhow, go check out the dub board and talk to some members or post up a thread asking about reliability. But yeah, definately better off with honda.

Not designated for either men or women, then it must be designated for 16 yr old street racers
