got a Question to you guys about RPM
Happy new year to all of you guys..
just have a quick Question.
I have 2001 vic ex coupe manual tranny.
and have catback exhaust and short ram Air intake installed.
A friend of mine just rented a vic 4dr lx 2002.
and it was running 80mph at 3000 rpm...auto tranny..
I was so mad that my car runs 80mph at 3800RPM
that's 800rpm more, besides, EX has Vtec engine...What the F--- is going on??
is my car strange??
I need your opinion guys....
what RPM is your car running at 80mph???
if you tell me wether yours is LX EX or DX, that will help me alot...
I have only one clue that I might broke my air sensor while I was
installing that CAI... is 3800 RPM normaL????
I'm so worry about this now!!!!
Also, that 2002 had more quiet and smooth suspension too...[IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif[/IMG]

I have a lx auto and my car runs at 3000rpm at 80mph. This is because autos have longer gear ratios, as for manual having shorter gear ratios for quicker acceleration

I dunno abuot for 80, but at 70 I run 34~35 rpms. I got a EX Manual coupe too. Was he by any chance going downhill when doing the 80@3k? The auto gears are wider, but they aren't that much wider. 800rpms is really a huge difference. The intake you got probably increases the rpms slightly, but I really don't know why there's a 800 rpms difference. Again, you might want to check the tach on the LX or make sure he was on level ground.

I have a auto ex with a CAI, HP headers, and full mendrel bent catback and 18s. My car goes 80 at about 3200 rpm. well thats what my V-ACF tells me

I run 4800 RPM @ 80 in 5th.
BTW; Variable valve timing only kicks in at higher RPM, so if you are sitting that low in the RPM band it wouldnt matter what engine was in it. If you are sitting higher and you both have autos you obviously have more agressivly geared gearing, so be happy and quit whining about insignifigant things.

My manual runs about the same as everyone else who replied here.
Whats weird though is the manual gets better gas mileage over the auto, but yet the manual tranny runs at higher rpms. WTF? Make me wonder if the auto is slipping that much internally? Maybe the torque converter isnt a lockup one? Strange..

no, its gets better RATED MPG because the people doing the test can shift for extreem gas savings where s in the auto its all up to the computer which splits performance and gas savings when it shifts.
