Piston (connecting) rods!
They suck!
To put it bluntly. For one, our rods are smaller than the older b16a (the sohc 1.6 liter). The b16a rods were good for 9 pounds of boost max but safe and after beeing shot peened they were good for, or at least supposed to be good for 15 pounds of boost. 190$ later and shot peened 1.7 d17a2 rods are not that great. Well lets just say I wouldn't go over 12 pounds of boost, and that is with je pistons from turbo-performance. One of the guys put 15 psi on stock pistons and shot peened rods and burnt holes and melted and broke rods and well just to much. hahahahahah
If anyone has any different expirience so far let me know.
Oh and for those who don't know what shot peened rods are = they take your stock rods and put them in a machine and pretty much to best explain it is they take a machine gun and shoot the rods with bee bee's to compress and make the metal more dense and thus being stronger ( not realy a machine gun)

Hmm... Good to know. I hope someone comes out with forged aluminum rods for our D17. That would rock.
Hey, what if you had pistons that lowered the compression, would the rods be able to take more psi then?

Grey: To answer your question, you can get lower compression JE pistons from turbo-performance but you loose horsepower. It is less stress on the rods so you can turn up the boost and thus less lag and more horsepower. The air in return is hotter and you loose a little horsepower there.
So realy it is a win loose situation. You just have to have everything tuned and set up properly and it will work out.
The best thing to do is what I did. Send your block to goldeneye to be bored and sleeved. Then get lower compression piston and then get the rods shot peened. You can then run 15 pounds of boost saftley. I also went ahead and had them bore the intake and exhaust ports and get 2 milometer bigger valves and stud the head.
Any other questions ask away.

I am not braging about my stuff just helping out the others. I will have pics up when it is all finished. Right now the money flow stopped because I have to buy christmas presents for my daughter and my lady and family.
You live in Tampa, well you might have seen me at a couple of shows. A lot of people on this site have seen my car.
EDIT: Go to the link in my signature. I am at work so I can't get it to work. It is a pic before the motor work.

C-Way,
I am not sure when my car will be done.
I had to put the car on hold for a little bit.
When is the show in zephyrhills anyways?
EDIT: I am getting this all done at Brevard Cylinder Head #321-453-3317 It is in Merritt Island, Florida. Ask for vic or chad, that is who is working on my stuff.

nice.
Though my understanding was that shotpeened rods on a D17 would take several hundred horsepower easily, as they are forged.
