Actually a read a few months ago in, I think it was Honda Tuning, that mentioned a *possible* return of the prelude in the next line-up change. So 2005 there could be a resurrection of the prelude, which would be sweet. We'll have to wait and see though, but in the mean-time you can get a Honda Element and go off-roadin. Just be careful not to go over board with the 160 ponies under the hood of that beast. Hey, if anyone else here has seen it - doesn't it look kinda like a hummer?
Anyways, just what I read, about the prelude I mean...

I doubt they will. I mean, it would directly compete with Type S sales, as well as the Accord Coupe
I believe the Prelude was discontinued due to a lack of sales, though I could be wrong.

Sales were declining because Honda designers lacked the right formula to make the car a continued success. Over the years, the Prelude lost its "sports car" resemblance, not to mention its performance rating, in comparison to previous generation Preludes. Basically, it started to look bland without alot of guts to back it up. Honda had a good thing going in the late '80s to early '90s, then just lost touch with its legendary "sports car" trademark. The car had so much potential if Honda could have just listen to its consumers before retiring it altogether.

Actually, the purpose of the prelude was not "sports car" until 1992. This was the first to have a powerful engine, and in 1993, Vtec appeared in it's already "gutsy" engine... Well, in 1997 they changed the style a bit (which is arguably the best design the prelude has ever seen, what with the mid-1990's having a horrible dash) and they added about 5 horsepower (and i'm sure torque increase was there too). Many times, people want to swap engines and rely on the prelude's H22A for satisfaction (it does deliver) and beat b16's and b18's all the time... Before the s2000 and appart from the nsx, i think the engine has got to be top of the line honda performance...

I thought they were marketing the Accord Coupe V6 as a Prelude replacement... see, RSX is the lightweight sportscoupe, with focus on the "sport"... Prelude's supposed to be the heavier, more stylish and "luxerious" coupe.. but Accord sort of took that spot now. If they come out with the Prelude, it's going to be in a tough position.
Unless they try coming out with a hatchback coupe again (like the ones with tri-angular lights), instead of a tradition coupe like they just had.. which over-lapped the Accord. I think if they go hatch, they'll at least be able to split them apart...
As for the engine choices, they shouldn't bother with 4-banger.. they need to go with v6.. kill the eclipse... that way it will no way in shape of form interfer with RSX's sales, along with Accord V6 Coupe's sales (because it would be a hatch).. of course, it should also offer less rear leg room than the Accord too..

hey guys my dad works for honda and i used to have a 92 prelude traded it for my civic but they say there will be a return of the prelude.
isn't that Honda Jazz/Jizz whatever, the Honda Fit, we have those here, ugly as hell, but I like the headlights, anyway, it's like a super economy car with like 42mpg, beats our 'vic...now our 'vics don't have anything to defends itself just kidding...
well, in my opinion it could be a market strategy, retire de venerable H22 while it's still good, see how the demands stands, then come up with a new better good looking one, overpriced it with dumb extra's like the RSX-S and get good profit out it...I think...
