question about totaled cars
how did the shop or insurance let you get away with taking alot of the factory parts off? i remember reading some threads where they totaled their civic and now they are gonna try and sell every little thing on their car. i was at the body shop today trying to get some of my belongings along with a few parts that i think i could sell, but one of the people there said that i can only take personal stuff otherwise the insurance will blame it on them for stealing. i managed to get away with some parts but i want more.

make it happen fast tho. once the insurance company buys it and the junk yard has it, they start stripping it down quick. atleast they did with my prelude. i went to go see it and get my rims back and they already had the interior stripped away and the seats were gone. that was only 4 days after it was towed to the junk yard too!

they havent paid me yet...the shop just told me it would be considered totaled. also the damage is now more than what it was at the time of the accident. wen i went down to the shop today they told me someone broke 2 windows and took mi speakers and stuff. good thing i took the face off mi PIO 8400MP the day before or else i would killed miself. so since the car is already labeled totaled, but htey havent paid me yet, can i still claim the stuff that was stolen?

you will have to ask them. when they called me and told me it was delivered, i immediatly told them i want them rims, but they asked for the stock ones in return for the aftermarket ones. so i dont know if they will let you take anything or not.

im not 100% sure but i think they saw it. last time i talked to insurance was yesterday, and they told me that the shop would cover the towing charges for now and someone will go down there and take a look. and i went down to the shop today to get the rest of my belongings and found out some1 broke into the car in the lot and took my 6x9s. is it bad to take some parts off the car before/after they look at it? they are going to tow my car to the junk yard on MONDAY and i hope i can claim my stolen items before its too late.
EDIT: this is my 1st driving accident and i know nothing about how the process works!

This is a good incentive to keep your stock parts...the insurance company will want a complete car, minus the damage...and it you take off aftermarket parts and don't replace them then they can say that your not giving them the complete value of the car...also they can do it with switching the parts but not as often...kinda gotta be sneaky when doing it.

in my experience, by the time i went to the tow yard/body shop to get my stuff out, the adjuster was already there, so i could have taken what i wanted, besides my aftermarket stuff. but i was honest and didn't. once the adjuster has seen it, and has decided on a price, whether (s)he talks to you or not, (s)he won't be out to see the car again. its fair game. the parts are only necessary for the adjuster to see in order to give you market value of the car. so start strippin away. Once the adjuster has been out there, and declared it a total loss, then the junk yard/tow ppl will start strippin it for money. you might as well get it before they do.....

as long as you put your stock stuff back on there should be no problem....I've had guys take off rims, stereo's , hell even body kits - be honest with he guy apprasier and let him know you want to keep a couple of parts and yor more than willing to put your stock stuff back on
