Ford says its GT will be assembled at a prototype build center located on the grounds of its Wixom assembly plant in Michigan. The low-volume sports car will not be integrated into the current assembly line process at the plant.
Ford also announced the Ford GT's powertrain, a supercharged MOD 5.4-liter DOHC V-8, will be built at the Romeo Engine Plant, in Romeo, Mich.
Ford says the first three GTs will be produced to help commemorate the Company's centennial celebration in June 2003 and as a tribute to the Ford GT's famous 1, 2, 3 finish at Le Mans in 1966. Full production will begin in Spring 2004 with plans to build about 1,000 units a year.
The Ford GT, which will carry a $130,000 price tag, is designed to match or exceed the performance of Italian exotic sports cars such as the Ferrari 360 Modena

am i the only one that thinks it's a sad world when ford starts building cars that they claim will compair to a ferrari? i'm very disappointed. it will probably run for about 10k and then die on you. there's no way people will say it compairs to the superior quality of a ferrari.

Rep Power: 0 Quality no, but as fast as a ferrari - sure why not? Domestics have proven time and time again they can produce fast cars (Dodge Neon-SRT4, Ford Mustang Cobra R, Chevy Corvette, Dodge Viper...)

Rep Power: 0 I didn't like the GT90 concept they came out with. However, this new GT is amazing! What a car! If I was a millionaire, I would buy it over a ferrari. It may be a Ford but in the 60s, the GT40 dominated LeMans!
