I use castrol syntec 5w-30 for my oil. What would you recommend as a good traany lube?
A few people were talking about royal purple.
Comments and suggestions please.
I have searched and no one realy answered this question.
In case you were wondering the tranny was out because I hed the motor out being rebuilt.

Rep Power: 0 I use all Honda products and I will tell you why.
I have a buddy that has been into Honda's for years and years, like the early 80's and has done up quite a few nice cars.
I asked him the same question and he said that out of all the cars that he had, he has tried most of the other proudcts out there on the market and has had the best success with using Honda products, he said that he has had cars that ran a good as the day he got them when he used the Honda products and had to little or no work on the high mileage engines because of it.
So for the time being I am sticking with those but am still curious to see the results of the other oils out there.
Dont Flame me cause I am just giving my $0.02.

Rep Power: 0 Motor oil - I won't even begin to start this debate, as I've seen 40+ page threads on other boards debating the merits of one brand vs. another.
Tranny fluid - Honda Genuine (HG) ATF and MTF are probably the best you can get.
Coolant - Again, Honda Genuine Type 2 Coolant is the shiznit.
When I worked at John Eagle Honda, we used to use the cheap *** Quaker State stuff in all of the customer's cars (unless they requested otherwise, which they never did, because they erroneously assumed we used genuine Honda stuff). But myself and all of the other mechanics always used Honda tranny fluid and coolant in our own Hondas. Sometimes the parts dept. would give us the Honda Genuine stuff when they ran out of Quaker State stuff; consequently, most mechanics would stockpile the Honda stuff for their own cars and wait for another shipment of Quaker State to put into customer's cars.
HG Type 2 Coolant is EXTREMELY high quality, and your water pump should last the lifetime of your car if you use it. But just remember that it is already pre-diluted (50% coolant, 50% water), so don't dilute it any further with water.
On a related note, you should ALWAYS use genuine Honda brake fluid in your Honda. Honda's master cylinders are designed a bit differently than other manufacturers - the master cylinder is actually exposed to the air. This spells BAD NEWS if you use normal DOT3/DOT4 brake fluid from another manufacturer, because brake fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air). Water absorption in the brake fluid lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid (increases chance of brake failure during hard and repeated braking) and wreaks havoc on the master cylinder seals. Honda Genuine Brake Fluid is designed specifically for Honda's open master cylinders and will resist water absorption much better than other brake fluids.
The whole time I worked as a tech at a Honda dealership, I felt bad that we weren't using the genuine Honda stuff in customer's cars, even though Honda of American instructed us to. That was just one of the many reasons why I quit my job a few weeks ago. It's all a business, and most of the time, if it comes down to a choice of doing what's right (using the right procedures and products) vs. doing what saves the most money for the dealership (using the cheapest *** **** you can possibly buy), most dealerships would choose Option B.
