yeah for real, hook us up with link...... I want some action. LOL its like high school and we can meet buy the lockers to we can beat em up. Let me at em
I don't really like Honda Tech because it doesn't really give me any info on my car. Everybody has a 5th or 6th gen civic. Nobody really knows anything about the 7th gen there.

PLEASE DO NOT join in the "argument" unless you can make a constructive comparision between the two engines.
there are obviously pros and cons in each engine.... personally, stock vs. stock, I'd take the D17A2 for the fact that its just a more powerful engine. But of course its easier to mod a D16Y8 and squeeze power out of it..
personally, I think the guy that post that is stupid.

someone post this for me and make yourself sound smart .
The D17A2 is somewhat a supeior design in it's stock format. The D16Y8 however is cheaper to modify and responds a little better to bolt-on's. the internals of both engines are pretty much identical. They share the same bore and possibly same pistons (no one has confirmed or denied this). The D17 has a slightly longer stroke which allows for a little more torque to be available lower in the power band.
The Manifolds are of completely different design and the D17 used 4 individual ignition coils as possosed to the d16y8's Distributor cap style system. the D17A2 found in the EX models has all 16 valves open at once. The vtec-E Variant used in the HX uses only 12 valves to start. As far as speed differences between the D16y8 and D17A2 it's pretty moot as both engines are pretty equally matched. The 6th gen EX weighs a little less and offers less air resistance. The 7th gen civics are bigger cars. The 6th gens were sub-compacts, the 7th gens are plain ole compact cars. The very slight increase in peak torque and the torque available lower down compensates for the weight differences.
The vtec use in both cars is not performance oriented like the B series. It's purpose is for cleaner emmisions and better fuel economy.. an end result is a boost in power.
Both engines are pretty much the same internally. The D17 has a dfferent intake manifold, ignition and emmisions sytem all geared for econmy and environmental friendliness.
Also a nice fun fact for you all is that the D17 non-vtec's make more power than B16A2 rev for rev. Compare a stock B16a2 dyno and a stock D17dx/lx dyno and you'll see the D17 makes a hair more torque and HP than the allmighty B series everyone seems to love so much.
If it's a race. Stock for stock, the D17 has a very slight advantage, but in cars so closely matched, it's ALL DRIVER!. With the full load of bolt on's the D16Y8 would gain the upper hand as it's emmisions system and intake manifold allow for better flow, so it responds better to modification.
