Rep Power: 0 Why are 7thgens so slow
What is the diffference between the 6thgen and the 7thgen civics that make the 7thgen so slow. My friend has a 99 EX with header, intake, exhaust, plugs & wires, and pulleys and his vic halls ***. Is Honda trying to lose customers.

Rep Power: 0 Theyve been enviromentalists, why dont you think Hondas come with Turbos or Blowers.
It just happens that the D17 dosnt respond well to mods, thats all.

Rep Power: 343 you're right. they are slow. but not any slower than any other civics. (cept for the Si, Type Rs)
I mean, your friend's civic isn't stock... and granted, those same modification will yield more gains on his car than ours... but our cars are faster stock...
in fact I think 7th gen DX coupe 5spd is faster than a previous gen EX auto... (I duno about LX due to extra weight though.) they dyno about the same for HP on the wheel... and the DX has obviously more torque...
last but not least, even though our cars are faster overall stock... its still not by much. its still an amount that can be dismissed...
and I doubt ur friend's civic is really that much faster... if you swap our our stock exhaust system, (completely) I think u will yield some pretty good result too.

Rep Power: 0 If you wanted a fast car, go buy one, a d16 civic and a d17 civic are nearly identical stock, I'd give the nod to a d17 in a race. Our cars are ULEV, and thus they won't respond that well to mods. I am sick of these stupid posts with people whining....

Rep Power: 0 I don't think they are that different (6th gen and 7th gen) My friend has a EX 6th gen and we are really even. The only reason that one of us beats the other is because of the driving. By the way he has CAI and Exhaust.

I'm basically saying that I think 7th gen Dx coupes manuals are faster than previous generation Civic EX autos... they dyno about the same at the wheel (around 100 ish hp) but the DX has a bit more torque to work with...
as for ULEV, it stands for Ultra Low Emission Level... meaning, you're driving a pretty enviorment friendly car...

if your saying that 7thgens are slower than six gens i'd have to disagree with you. i have beaten at least 2 or 3 6th gen ex's with manuals and exhausts at least. our car has a good 5-10 (can't remeber dont want to look) more lbs of torque than a 6th gen. plus that car you drove in had some decent mods to it. go race a 6thgen thats the same trim level as your's i garantee you'll win.

Rep Power: 0 talk to jet chip, replace existing fuel system, and you're no longer ULEV. previous civics werent as limited from the factory. honda had to give us an extra liter to make em perform the same.

Rep Power: 0 I have a dx 5spd coupe with absolutely no mods except lowering springs and si alloys.. and I eat previous gen civics for breakfast.. a friend of mine had a 98 dx which I barely gained on, now his 00 ex is cake.. I eat modded civics (intake and exhaust) coupes and hatches all the time.. I've even beat a 2k1 ex with catback, cai, safc by about half a car.. I run about mid door with my friends 2000 si with aem cai, and tanabe cat back.. IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE DRIVER and luckily I know my car and when to shift perfectly.. because of the fact that my dx didn't come with a tach and I havent put one on yet I don't know what I'm shifting at, but I'm guessing its way in redline.. maybe someone could tell me about what RPM I'm at? I shift at 27mph ->2nd, 58->3rd, and about 86-88->4th and fuel cut at 118!!! arrgg!! for this gen being so slow I sure as hell have a fast one.. I'm embarassed to run it at the track fear of running high 16's but I might just to see what I can get..

Rep Power: 0 Sigh... they're slow because they're new. Simple as that. Plus there's so much stuff under the hood preventing it from being faster. It's funny how people expect Civics to be fast cars from their reputation but no one never seems to want to grasp the truth that it's hard fixing a new car. Yes, we've had our time to discover exactly why it remains slow after being modded but IMO, it's not enough time to tell what the engine is capable of despite it being an SOHC. Any car can be fixed up, but with all this new sh't under the hood... PLUS for the fact that it is a ULEV engine, it's just a challenge. Some people can choose to complain about it cuz it's not worth it or accept it because "it's a Honda," or for whatever reason you may have. You got a car you thought could be fast like it's older generations that's stuck around 127HP, does 16s with the average driver in the quarter, and isn't friendly with name brand performance parts makers that makes turbos and superchargers for other Hondas. Don't think I'm hating, but that's the truth. I love my Civic to death and all, and I would like it to be faster, too. My $.02 goes into the jar for those people who complain that it's slow. If you want a fast car, do all of your homework first... or at least start off with a faster car and realize you're gonna pay more. If you don't like it, there's other ways around it but it's gonna cost you more money either way.

Rep Power: 0 You all are gettin me wrong I love my civic. I was just saying that all everyone on this forum is bitchin about there mods don't really add any more performance. Then my friends 6thgen civic's mods seemed to do alot for his car than similar mods for the 7thgen. So you all need to simmer down now.
