It isn't sold gold because, yes, gold is too weak, depending on the purity. The more gold in the mixture, the weaker it is...
If that IS gold, it is just a plate, and I would say that one who buys a $4 million car, probably can bet it replated in the future... It is just plated probably so they could have it 24 karat, so that it won't discolor as easily...

lol, I'm sure it's assumed this car is not meant to be driven - kind of like the limited editiion Delorean's - there are 5 in the world that are gold plated...
