Lookin to buy one, EX or LX, What's the diff?

Hello!
I'm hoping all you people out there can help me out.
I'm looking into buying a new Civic coupe.
I think I want the EX but I'm not sure.
What are the main differences between the LX and EX? How is the motor different? Is the HP difference felt?
WHat about mod stuff? Are all the exhausts and intakes the same?

I plan on Autocrossing the car quite a bit and dont really want the sunroof because of chassis flex. Will the LX without the sunroof fit the bill or wont the mod parts fit?
Are the trannies the same, 5 speeds? Any info you could give me woulf be greatly appreciated.

Just so ya know, I'm not a total newbie, I just dont know Honda's. I've owned 5 modded VW's, with my current car being a modded 97 Golf K2 and my autocross car being a modded 97 Cavalier. I do almost all my own work and tuning.
I have experiece from BMW's to Audi's to Porsche GT3 and GT4 cars and even a REAL Mitsu Lancer EVO 5 rally car.
Thanks!

Lx has 117 while the Ex has 127. Vtec gives the EX 10 extra Hp I really don't know about the Hp difference from the car. Most everyone says that the vtec on the Ex dosen't do squat! Mod wise I don't have a clue

Difference between the EX and LX....

V-Tec..... which means.... 57349758473958739673895698374958 more HP

Aftermarket parts GENERALLY come out for the EX first. The EX has a few more features but all in all, they're basically all the same

Ok, the car has the VTEC. IS it a real one that kicks in up high, or some gas milage thing that changes over at like 2500 RPM?
Thanks

umm, first of all, its vtec, not V-Tec (i shouldn't have had to clear that up), and the LX has 115hp, not 117, thats the HX. The vtec in the EX give 4hp more to the wheels than the LX (not really noticeable, especially since the EX weighs roughly 100lbs more). The only other thing that you should be considering is if you want a moonroof. Here in Canada we get heated mirrors and ABS standard, I dont thikn you'll get that in the states though.

our version of V-TEC is for energy optimization. DOHC V-tec motors are made for performance

Go with the EX...I personally like it better...
the things i love though you may not (sunroof, keyless entry, engine - though you probably cant tell the difference, ive never driven an lx-, ABS, stereo is nicer, and whatever else)
your choice but i love my EX

Ex=sunroof, body colored door handles, ex tag on back, arm rest, 10 HP (that are barely noticable until reaching high rpms), stock CD player, security system(not sure if sandard or optional, diff dome lights, lil door under cd payer or cd's. 185/60/15's instead of 185/65/14's. i think thats about it. engine is the same typejusthas additonal box under hood that is the v-tec. and also it says v-tec on the engine cover thingy. if i were you considering how much more EX is i woudgo LX. the only thing i dont like abot my LX is that i dont have a sunroof. all the other differences esides v-tec i have changed on my car.

riley
if anyubody know's somewhere in FL where i can gt a sunroof insalledcheap lemme know.

The main differences are, different gear ratios. (Search for them because I don't know them off the top of my head) Ex has ABS, few extra hp to the wheel, sunroof, arm rest, 6 speakers instead of 4, cd player, arm rest. I think thats it, and about 100 extra pounds.

the EX has the e-VTEC which is an economy-VTEC. not worth it. the ex is also 100 lbs heavier. if you plan on a turbo go with the lx and its lower comnpression ratio. if not, who cares, if you want you engine to say VTEC on it so you think you have a fast go then buy the ex if you want to save some bucks go for lx.

Nuts, you mean VTEC-E. I'd say go for an HX. Cheaper than an EX...100mph in 3rd gear...and can do EX mods with a little extra work. For those that freak about the lean burn...the HX doesn't lean burn unless you keep the pedal steady under 70mph. In an autocross you'd never lean burn. Plus, you'll save some gas on the way home.

LX engine has a lower compression ratio... which is better for forced induction.

EX! Chicks love it lol. If you're getting an auto, get an HX, 5spd get an EX. The EX just has better aftermarket stuff (you'll know when you have one) It comes with small things that some dont notice, like the bar between the front two tires to dampen wheel hop. Also nice speakers inside (i only changed the deck...DVD and LCD now . The Vtec does make a lil difference, i noticed the engine being louder than a LX so its all your taste.

What exactly do you want it for? The engine in the ex isn't worth the extra money. It's the keyless entry, sunroof, cd player, power windows/locks, 15" caps - yAH!, body colored mirrors and handles, elbow rest, cruise control on steering wheel, etc.....that makes the ex worth it...

I think I'd go with the lx for a practical car to autox in. You don't need all that extra stuff. It's lighter and I think there is quite a few horseys to be gained by simply upgrading the exhaust manifold and exhaust. Got toe moses! You can't beat the price either!
