DID I BUY THE WRONG FREAKING CAR!!!???
Fellas! I bought my civic last week. I was really amped to do some mods and up the horsepower. I was going on what I've seen people do to earlier generation civics. Now, as I'm reading all these forums, I'm learning that there isn't much to do to our engines to up the horsepower. I need help! Is my only option an engine swap on a brand new car???? HELP, I NEED HORSEPOWER!!

Well what u read is correct. The new engine is tuned for max horsepower and best gas milage. Unlike previous civics that were more restrictive and where removing those parts made a big difference, the new civic doesn't have that advantage. Another reason is that the car is only 2 years old and people are having a hard time cracking the code and internals. Some people are making some stuff soon, but it will cost ya. If you want speed now, Nitrous is the only way to go. Custom turbo or k20 swap are possible. You should have bought a different car if you wanted horsepower. Plain and simple, unless you want to sink lots of $$ into it.

You can do a K-Series swap now, you can make your own turbo kit, you can buy a turbo kit from a few less known sources, RevHard is coming out with a turbo kit for our cars, KMS supposedly can get our cars to go 230 wheel HP all motor and an 100 shot of nitrous, or soon you will be able to swap in a B-Series motor...take your pick.
you should do a little more research before buying a car. i just hate hearing people complain about the power in our cars! its a gas sippin' reliable eco box. not a performance machine. sorry

Well you can always add n2o into the car and make it fast. Or wait for the HKS turbo kit, it will be out in the winter. Or engine swap.
Basic bolt on will work but won't give you the same hp gain like the previous generation.
The best bolt on at the moment is the HP Racing Header with Cat.

Yeah, these Civics aren't fast, but you will OWN a 350Z at the gas station... I'm getting 35-36 mpg on average on regular, not premium!
Heck, since the Civic is slow, you might as well go all show and put on a wild bodykit, 18" rims and tons of neon, altezzas and stickers.

Making an import go fast costs $$$$, cause you have to do some major engine mods, like swapping in a bigger one.
If you want fast, by a used f-body for a couple grand, spend 2k on mods and you'll be running 13s easy.
As for the civic, the thrust to weight ratio ain't bad and it'll run forever, but if you wanted horsepower you bought the wrong car.

actaully man you didn't buy the wrong car. any sub 20K car won't bve very fast. seeing as how you like HP just like everyone else you'd probubly go for an RSX or somehwere around 25K for speed. well buying hte civic for about 13,000 and doin an RSX engine swap for about 9K that puts you at 23,000 dollars. you save a little money and have a faster car and most of all a very very innovative differnt crazy a$$$ ride. if i had 25K thats how i'd spend it.

So all of you bought the new civic because it's cheap on gas? I mean most guys were buying earlier civics because of all the mods and easy tuning so whats the reason you all are buying the new ones when they don't really have **** to offer other then gas mileage and a cool looking interior? it obviously ain't performance.
I bought mine for several reasons.
1. Price - I got mine for just over 13500.
2. Reliability - I put 100+ miles a day on it, and I have been very pleased with Honda's reliability in the past
3. Fuel Economy - Sure, we may not be the fastest, but for being so damn fuel economical they sure have a little kick. (Compare this to a Jetta TDI, 0-60 in 13.8 ouch!)
4. Aftermarket - Yes i said aftermarket. Sure maybe not the speed freak aftermarket, but there are tons of parts to cruise and look damn good in.
5. Last but not least, RESALE VALUE - Honda's have some of the best resale values on the market. That extra cash will come in handy when I buy my next car, a TRUE sports car.
Accept your car for what it is, still one hell of a car to me.

Humm well another one of these topics a civic was never meant for speed especially these new ones they are really slow on that end. They may have parts out for it sometime but way after I sell mine in a year or 2 and get my Accord Coupe. Yeah I did my research and just wanted a dependable civic so just research before you go out and drop money on a vehicle again.
