You mean backfire as in a flme coming out of your exhaust?? If yes, guys put a sparkpulg in their tailpipe with a switch to make a spark.

well, in my car, if i rev it up to like 4 grand, jump off the throrrle, and keep bliping the throttle on and off real quick i can usually get it to load up and backfire....but i dont do this often considering its generally not good for the car.....even take the risk of blowing valves and stuff....not good

You'd need like an MSD ignition that cuts the spark with the rev limiter.

The sparkplug trick will only work if you have something injecting fuel towards the end of the exhaust as well, i.e. propane. Cars these days are way to efficient to have raw fuel or extremely rich fumes flowing out the tail pipe, which is what you need to spark a flame. Back in the day of manual chokes, you could pull your choke out, richen the motor till it about dies and that would be enough to get you some flamage, but that was also through non-catalatic exhaust systems with low restrictions.

With a factory exhaust, I really doubt you could get a flame out the back by getting it to backfire, although I might be wrong. The cars that usually do that have mostly straight through, low restrictive exhaust that don't stop the flame from being passed all the way through. You can also blow your exhaust apart with a backfire, so good luck with that.

The definition of a Backfire is: Passage of unburned fuel mixture into the exhaust system where it is ignited and causes an premature explosion. Note: EXPLOSION

Hope this helps!

Yeah my dad was tellin me that back in his day, guys would put spark plugs in the exhaust and just wire it back and then when they wanted flames, they would turn off the car and just pump the gas (again, not recommended with fuel injection, this was when they were still using carbuetrators) and then turn on the car and it usually it did. Now, when you usually see cars that have fuel injection do it, its usually because they are running the car really hard then they downshift 1 or 2 gears, get off the gas and then get back on it really quickly. You can try it but, its not worth the damage.

A 'misfiring system', (as put by the series Initial-D), if I'm not mistaken is usually a sign of an engine with advanced timing running race gas.

Apparently on the way back from a NE get together, Grey and Havok2k1 said I backfired when I downshifted on the highway, and the backfire sounded like it was coming from the intake...I didn't hear it because I had the window down and the music blaring, but he might have it on tape...methinks it's time to check the timing in my car

Not trying to flame, but ISN'T THIS STUPID? I mean, ignited fuel in the exhaust? That can't be good. Besides, if you are making a video, why not create a particle system in Lightwave or something. Even superimposed flame footage, but actual flames from the exhaust? FLAMES FROM THE EXHAUST!?! What are you doing, a remake of Grease?

I with the rest of you guys.
This might not be the smartest idea but hey if it works for you then go for it I guess, I just dont know if its worth killing your car for a video. If you want to try and backfire, the I could suggest adding some of that NOS Octaine booster to your fuel, I have a few friends that did that and it killed their engines, and they smoke and backfile all the time...........

Good Luck though man.
