Accidentally put Diesel in my car....

After I put diesel not knowingly, my engine started to make LOUD knocking noises. At first I didn't know I had put diesel in the car because the gas pumps were side by side. My car wouldn't accelerate and started to rumble. I stopped it at a nearby parking lot. and from then on I couldn't start it again. It'd rumble and stop. So I ended up taking my car to the Honda dealer the next day from a tow truck. At first I didnt' know what was happening to my car because it only has 10,000 miles on it. But the dealer later told me I had put diesel in the car. I know it was a stupid mistake but what now? I took it to the dealer and from my dad talking to him and arguing with him..I could just tell..he didn't "replace" the parts with NEW parts..i could tell from the way he looked..and his words..that he only cleaned the parts. My dad was demanding them to show them our used parts.but he jus said they're in the trash.. but my question is...does anyone know what parts they actually have to replace or clean?? and since there's some possible diesel left over in my car..what's the next best solution to clean it out? Just keep on using gas and keeping my tank full..? I need advice please

you should charge the gas station for damages or something. the diesel nozzle's shouldn't fit your car.

hey brents1 my friend did that in his bros vw too. it was a gti 1.8t and he put diesel in there cause the gas cap said diesel so what we did was flush out the gas system by syphoning it out and then replaced the spark plugs. then it was hard to start up but after that everything worked fine. hth

Ug, how old are you? Have you read anything I've wrote?

If you put diesel in your car, it won't run at all...even if you put gasoline in it afterwards. If it's running now...there wasn't diesel in there in the first place.

I had diesel in my Civic too!!! Stupid Mother!
I had mine towed to a local shop and what they did was dump the diesel from your tank and flush the fuel system.
Then they add some gas and then you car is back on the road. YOU DON'T NEED NEW PARTS FOR DIESEL. Maybe your spark plugs need to be changed. I didnt change any parts and my car is still running good.

If you did not have the service performed at a dealership, make sure the shop puts back your fuel lines securely. Mine was loose and my check engine light came on.

BTW, why did your dad scream at the dealer for new parts? I don't think the warranty covers stupidity, does it? (No offense)

As I said earlier..I went to a dealer and got it fixed.. But i'm jus worried that He(service man) didn't actually replace my spark plugs and fuel injector with new parts..I'm guessing/knowing that he only cleaned them out to save money cuz the repair didn't cost as much as he said it would...but the car runs for now..but he denied to cover the labor with any warranty..and denied to show us our old parts.. so for the future..would my car be ok..since it's partially fixed....and would running it with normal gasoline eventually clean the engine out..? what would I have to worry bout now..anything ?

Man that sucks, I did something stupid like that once. I put a jug of water into my lawn tractor by mistake. The jug usually had Gas in it but for some reason it had water in it so i went and poured it in anyway, and started it up and started to go, well needless to say I ddint get too far, but in the end we just dumped the water out of the tank, checked the plugs, and then put high test in it and away i went again, still running strong, and that was like 7 years ago.

Hopefully your car will be fine now, might want to run something through the fuel system to clean it out just to be safe.

Later

i'm just wondering where most of you guys live because it seems like very few gas stations here even carry diesel.

You can't clean a fuel filter so that was obviously replaced. The fuel injectors won't need replacing since it doesn't matter what the squirt, it'll clean itself out in a second. The spark plugs you can check yourself but they shouldn't need changing either. The only part needed to be changed is your fuel filter.

Man, that really sucks, but how in the world could you not tell. I just went to the gas station there are so many things that would throw it off. The nozzle didn't fit, it was green handled, and you have to SELECT the grade of gas that you want in order to get the pump to start. Maybe it was a simple oversight, and good luck, but that is one of the dumbest thing I've heard of anyone doing.
